Chapter 3 - 4. System Awakening

As Kai lay passed out on the sect steps, a woman with long black hair and an elegant veil stood quietly nearby. Her robes fluttered in the mountain breeze, her presence both graceful and commanding.

She looked down at the sleeping boy, her expression softening.

> "He's sleeping in the middle of a sect filled with dangerous cultivators… Does he really not value his life?"

She bent down and gently lifted him into her arms, effortlessly carrying him despite his weight.

So beautiful… she thought, cheeks coloring slightly. She had come down to evaluate him after hearing the Alchemy Peak elder's recommendation. But seeing him in person—his soft features, his innocent sleeping face—she didn't hesitate. I'll take him myself.

With Kai in her arms, she floated upward toward her peak. Her veil danced around her like mist, drawing glances from disciples far below. Moments later, she landed gracefully and dropped Kai onto the ground—not roughly, but just enough to wake him up.

> "Ahhh! Who kicked me while I was eating tofu…?" Kai groaned, rubbing his back, slowly opening his eyes.

Then he froze. A towering woman stood before him, wrapped in silks, a commanding aura around her.

In an instant, Kai knelt down and pressed his forehead to the floor.

> "I'm sorry, Lady Immortal! If I've offended you somehow, please punish me, but spare my parents! They have nothing to do with me!"

She blinked, then tilted her head in amusement.

> "What nonsense are you spouting?"

Kai trembled. "I heard stories! Cultivator women… they're powerful and scary and… vengeful. My village elder said to never offend them or you might lose your whole bloodline!"

She chuckled, finally smiling. Her voice was warm but firm.

> "Wake up. I'm not here to hurt you."

He cautiously peeked upward. "Really…?"

> "Really," she said gently. "In fact, you're now my disciple."

Kai blinked. Did I just get chosen?

> "Now kneel properly and kowtow three times."

Kai immediately obeyed, knocking his forehead to the ground with full respect. Then he stood up.

She walked toward him and took his hand. As she sent a thread of her spiritual sense into his body, her brows furrowed. His spiritual root was… unusual. Chaotic. Mysterious. Then she leaned in to examine it more closely—only to accidentally pull him against her chest.

Kai froze, face buried in her soft curves.

His heart pounded in confusion. He didn't know what to feel, but warmth spread through him, and… comfort.

Without meaning to, he wrapped his arms around her gently.

What is this strange feeling…? he thought.

She placed her chin atop his head and closed her eyes. With a breath, she slipped into his consciousness.

Inside Kai's Mind

It was blinding white. No floor, no walls—just endless light. She narrowed her eyes.

> "Where… is this?"

Suddenly, her skin prickled with goosebumps. Something was watching her.

She turned.

There, deep within the void, stood a chained figure—a black dragon coiled and locked by golden divine chains, its massive body radiating an oppressive aura. A black mist oozed from its scales, falling like ink to the unseen ground below.

Her legs trembled. Still, she stepped forward. I need to see more.

The moment she got closer—

The dragon's golden eyes snapped open.

She stumbled back in terror, gasping for breath. Her body shivered uncontrollably. The dragon didn't move—but its gaze alone nearly shattered her mind.

She yanked herself out of Kai's consciousness and stumbled a step back. Her breathing was ragged, and her pupils had shrunk in shock.

Kai's eyes slowly opened. His irises were now streaked with golden threads, flickering like divine fire.

> "Who… who are you?" she asked, voice almost trembling.

He tilted his head, confused.

> "I'm Kai, Master."

She steadied herself, gathering her composure. This boy is not normal.

> "From now on, you are not allowed to act without my permission. You will stay on this peak. No one else must see your awakening."

> "Yes, Master!" he said, smiling brightly.

---

She handed him a small wooden bottle and a ring.

> "This ring is a storage treasure. I've linked it to my own for now. You'll learn how to use it once you cultivate."

Kai's eyes widened with wonder. "You pulled it from nowhere! Like magic!"

> "It's not magic—it's spiritual energy," she said with a smirk. "Now, take the pills inside. They're called Qi Refining Pills. They'll help you start cultivating."

Kai opened the bottle and poured the pills into his hand—five perfectly white spheres.

> "Master, what are these again?"

She crossed her arms beneath her generous chest. "Qi Refining Pills. Just take one to begin."

Kai licked one.

> "…Tasty!"

Before she could stop him, he popped all five into his mouth.

> "NO! Don't eat all of them—!"

He blinked innocently. "Huh? Why? I feel fine."

---

Suddenly, a voice echoed in his mind.

[Congratulations! You have devoured 5 Middle-Stage Qi Refining Pills.]

[You have gained 150 Spiritual Points.]

[Congratulations! You are the last Descendant alive in the Multiverse.]

[Say "System" to access your Status.]

Kai's eyes widened. "Uh, Master… Someone's talking in my head."

> "What?!"

He pointed to his head. "A voice just said something about 'System' and 'Spiritual Points'... and something about being the last… descendant?"

She stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder. "What exactly did you hear?"

> "It said… 'Say System to access your information.' Should I?"

She hesitated, then nodded. "Say it."

> "System!"

A translucent blue screen appeared before him, visible only to him.

---

[User: Avian Devor]

[Cultivation: None (150/100)!]

[Techniques: None]

[Attributes: None]

Kai frowned. "It says… my name is Avian Devor? That's not me, right?"

Her heart sank. Avian Devor… that name… I had never heard of that family name before.

> "What else do you see?"

> "It says Cultivation is 'None' but with something like 150 out of 100? There's a red mark flashing there."

She bit her lip. "Touch it."

Kai tapped the mark.

Nothing happened immediately—but then his body tensed.

> "M-Master! Something is happening… inside me!"

His chest glowed as a silver light radiated outward, spreading through his veins. A divine energy burst into color—reds, blues, purples, golds—all mixing in a beautiful stream within him.

She clutched his arm.

> "Tell me! What's happening?!"

But the glow intensified. Kai was lifted from the ground, his eyes shut tight.

A cocoon of swirling light and silver energy began to form around his floating body—an egg, glowing and radiant, pulsing with energy so pure it felt sacred.

No… not just sacred. Divine.

She snapped out of her daze and cast a barrier over her entire peak. No one else could see this.

Rushing inside, she retrieved a thick, dusty book from her private library and flipped through it with trembling fingers.

She looked back at the egg.

"Kai… who are you really?"
