The list went on and on, as there were a lot of things Alfred had gotten from his gacha some were okay, others quite useful. But the main reason he opened the panel was to check the Gacha Character Assimilation screen.
A few months back, Alfred had acquired Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist, one of the older anime he had watched. It was a great show, and Roy was one of the most powerful characters in it, known for his flame alchemy.
While assimilating him, Alfred got an idea to combine Roy's alchemy with that of Archer, Rin and no name assassin from Fate . So, he started mixing and matching different types of magic circles to see if he could achieve the desired effect. He had spent countless hours on this, and now the final version of the magic circle was right in his hands .
This particular magic circle was designed to allow him to form a magic core in his body a core that would enable him to absorb and store massive amounts of mana from his surroundings.
In the DC universe, there's a rule that magic users must give and take something from the universe, a concept similar to the Fullmetal Alchemist law of equivalent exchange. In the Fate universe, it depends on one's magic circuits and their inherent potential. Another character Alfred had assimilated with supernatural powers was Riichi from Naruto, and even in that world, abilities depended heavily on one's clan and heritage and space aliens .ah that dame space aliens ruin Naruto.
Looking at all of this from a sci-fi perspective, Tony Stark's influence had helped a lot. Ever since Alfred had assimilated Tony, there had been a significant boost in his intellect. He could think and act faster, analyze more deeply, and develop complex systems with ease. It was great.
Though, he still wished he had gotten comic-version Tony Stark, not just the MCU or animated version. But as the saying goes, beggars can't be choosers.
So, were the months of searching and time spent on this all going to be for nothing? Alfred wondered as he pulled the paper from his pocket and looked at it. With a slow breath, he summoned a knife from thin air a short, white blade marked with a yin and yang symbol.
He looked from the paper to the blade in his hand and let out a bitter sigh. Placing the paper carefully on the ground, he glanced at his hand one last time before driving the sword straight through it.
As the blood dripped from his hand onto the ground, Alfred let it flow freely. Slowly, he moved from his position, crawling across the floor. By the time he finished, an intricate pattern had formed etched in blood, made up of runes and other magical elements. The magic circle was now complete.
Alfred looked at the circle and smiled as he wrapped his wounded hand. Only one thing remained: placing the items, like the magic stone he had received from the gacha, into the center. With that done, all he could do was hope for the best well residing the chance he had prepare.
With everything in place, Alfred stood at the center of the magic circle. The paper was laid beneath him, and the magic stone rested in his hand. He brought the stone close to the center of his chest the spot where his magic core would be formed.
Originally, he had hoped to place it somewhere else, perhaps near a kidney or even inside his brain. But after carefully thinking it through again and again, he realized there was little benefit. The flow of magical energy to those areas would be inefficient. The center of the chest, near the heart, was the optimal location even if it left him vulnerable to attacks.
"This part is going to hurt… it's going to hurt a lot," he muttered to himself, letting out a bitter breath.
He crushed the magic stone in his hand. A sharp pulse of energy surged through him as the shards dissolved into glowing dust, sinking into his skin. The air around him grew heavy, charged with power, as he began the chant:
"From the blood, I shall rise.
From the sweat, I shall rise.
From the heat, I shall be reborn.
From my hand, I shall protect.
For I am the king that never was."
As he spoke those words, Alfred's body began to draw in magical energy not just from the stone, but also from the magic circle beneath him. It was as if he had become a lightning rod, channeling and concentrating mana from all directions. The surge of power hit him hard, making his entire body feel unbearably heavy. He collapsed to his knees, the stone's energy fusing with his body.
He let out an almost anime-like scream, clutching at his chest as the pain of the core forming tore through him. It felt like he was being ripped apart from the inside and rebuilt piece by piece.
"AHHH!" Alfred screamed, thrashing on the floor like a wounded animal. He forced the surrounding mana into a single point near his chest, battling through the agony. His vision blurred. His body begged him to let go — to drift off into unconsciousness. But he knew that if he closed his eyes now, he might never open them again.
So he endured.
He suffered the unbearable pain of staying awake… of being conscious while his body was reforged.
He didn't know how long he had screamed it could've been hours. Eventually, he found himself lying on the floor, staring up at the ceiling, a faint, exhausted smile tugging at his lips. He had done it. He had formed his first magic core a foundation that would help him immensely in the long run.
He could feel it now, not just in his body, but almost as a separate presence within him. The newly formed core was slowly drawing in energy from the environment, feeding him bit by bit.
He wanted to test it right away, to push it to its limits… but he stopped himself. His body was tired, drained, and aching in every part.
There would be time to test it later.
Right now, he just needed to rest.
"This was a good day," he muttered to himself, his voice barely a whisper.
And with that, Alfred drifted into unconsciousness the pain behind him, the future ahead.
