Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Dragons of Legacy

Eula Lawrence moved quickly through the Lawrence estate, the Duel Disk secure on her arm and her deck in hand. She wasn't running from danger, but from excitement. Her earlier draw had given her three Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards, and she wanted to test the possibility of fusion. This wasn't about training or duty—it was about discovery.

The courtyard was empty, as usual, its cracked marble tiles and overgrown columns reflecting the slow decay of the once-proud Lawrence name. It had become her private space for training, far from the prying eyes of city folk and her family's constant disapproval.

She raised the Duel Disk and started setting the cards. The system hummed quietly, activating with a smooth energy that responded to her intent.

"Such a display of haste. Very noble of you," came a voice from behind.

Eula turned slightly. Schubert Lawrence, her uncle, had arrived, his expression hard to read but clearly disapproving. Dressed in a formal jacket, cane in hand, he looked every bit the aging aristocrat unable to accept how far the Lawrence family had fallen.

"This place used to command respect," he muttered. "Now look at you, playing games in the ruins."

She ignored him and inserted the first Blue-Eyes card into the Duel Disk.

"Blue-Eyes White Dragon—rise."

The flash of light was immediate. A massive dragon formed in the air, casting a long shadow across the courtyard. Schubert flinched. He'd never seen such a thing before, not even during Mondstadt's worst magical storms.

She followed with the second summon, then the third. Each time, a dragon emerged, majestic and silent except for the gusts of wind and the pressure in the air. The three hovered above the estate, motionless but powerful, their silver scales reflecting the sun.

Schubert stumbled back, leaning against a pillar for balance. "Three dragons? Where did you get this power?"

His earlier anger was replaced by confusion and disbelief. To him, this felt like divine intervention—something ancient reawakened. He looked at Eula again. Maybe she hadn't betrayed the Lawrence name by joining the Knights. Maybe she was working undercover, learning their secrets, and preparing to restore the family legacy with weapons no one expected.

Eula caught the strange look in his eyes. He seemed proud for once. She didn't understand it, but she didn't care. Her focus was on the next step.

She took out the Fusion card.

"Fusion—activate."

The dragons started glowing, their outlines breaking apart and merging together. The light blinded Schubert for a few seconds. When it cleared, what remained in the sky was not three dragons, but one much larger form.

The Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon hovered above them. Three heads, one body, and a size that dwarfed anything seen in Mondstadt since the days of Stormterror. The roars shook loose pieces of marble from the estate walls.

Servants peered from windows. Schubert dropped to his knees. He had no idea what to make of it, but he held onto the belief that this meant the Lawrence family could rise again. Somehow, Eula had unlocked a power no one else in their bloodline had.

Eula, meanwhile, was satisfied. This wasn't about her family's past or future. This was about what was possible with the cards, the Duel Disk, and the strange world Galehaven Comics had opened to her.

As the dragon faded and the courtyard fell silent again, Schubert looked up at her with awe. Eula remained calm. She had no idea what story he was writing in his head, and she didn't ask.

Reflection:

Eula successfully fuses the three Blue-Eyes White Dragons into the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, marking a turning point in how her power is perceived. Schubert sees it as evidence of a secret plan tied to family pride, though he's mistaken. The event spreads her reputation and hints at increasing public exposure for Harlan's shop. It also confirms that the comics offer real, scalable power.
