Chapter 6 - ATTACK FROM DARKSIDE SPIRITS

The battlefield trembled beneath the fury of combat. But behind the chaos, an ancient truth lingered — one that shaped the very nature of the enemy.

Darkside spirits bore a frightening resemblance to humans. This wasn't coincidence; they were born from wizards and witches — powerful beings who wielded Renshi in two distinct forms the light and dark. Wizard darkside spirits were created from the overflow of raw, uncontained Renshi in the past from Wizards the first darkside spirits that were created from the wizards are known as the ancient gods, and they are twelve in numbers because there were born directly from the wizards, while witches darkside spirits were born from an insatiable lust for greater power, the first darkside spirits that where created from the witches are known as darkside gods. Their transformation marked the fall of an entire era.

Wizards and witches were humans with dual Renshi. Their power was beyond comprehension. But due to a tragic betrayal early in history, their kind became nearly extinct. Now, generations later, darkside spirits are born only from the corrupted remnants known as ancient gods and darkside gods. Their population has grown so rapidly that they now account for nearly one-quarter of the human population.

There were once only twelve true wizards — their strength a thousand times greater than that of the witches. While over a thousand witches once walked the earth, wizard darkside spirits are now considered myth. No Shinra has seen one in over a century. The last to witness one died in battle, leaving no account. It was only through advanced mages using the Rewind Spell that the truth was uncovered.

The common witch beta darkside spirit stood over seven feet tall, with appearances and traits both terrifying like alien. Though they had two eyes, a nose, and a mouth like humans, their jaw stretched three times wider, filled with teeth sharp as forged blades. Their intellect was comparable to that of a ten-year-old human child, and yet their battle instincts were deadly. They had horse-like legs, allowing them to sprint ten times faster than a human, and arms ending in natural blades jutting from their elbows. Their skin was like hardened stone, impervious to most weapons — except for two weak spots: the center of their chest and the back of their head.

Their eyes were shielded by protective scales, making them nearly impossible to damage. They had one more secret weapon: a scaled spine that extended like a tail, reaching three meters long. It balanced them in combat and served as a surprise counterattack mechanism. All darkside spirits, whether born from witches or wizards, carried only one form of Renshi — dark Renshi. The witch-born beta darkside spirits all shared similar abilities due to their equal power levels. But the abilities of even the weakest wizard-born darkside spirits remained a mystery. None had survived a confrontation with one.

"Behind you, running mouth!" Falco shouted, eyes wide as a darkside spirit crept up behind the Shinra with the second dark cape.

"Don't butt in, fool!" the knight snapped, spinning around just in time to dodge the strike. "Don't think you're the only one with sensory abilities. I can smell them." With a swift motion, he drew his second blade and plunged it into the darkside spirit's chest. "Worry about yourself."

"There's no end to them, Captain," said Slayer, the red-caped Shinra. "I think it's time to get serious."

The captain nodded. "I guess you're right. Let's finish this."

He closed his eyes and began to focus. His Renshi gathered like a storm, pouring into his blade. The sword glowed with intense light.

"Now this is getting interesting," the second dark-caped Shinra said with a grin.

"No time to be impressed," the red-caped assistant barked. "Keep pushing!"

"Yes, sir!" came the united reply as the court pushed into the second wave. They had already wiped out a hundred of the enemy — but it was only the beginning.

Unknowing to the Shinras, the darkside spirits had employed a strategy: splitting into smaller waves to wear the Shinras down. This was far too advanced for normal beta darkside spirits. No one questioned it — not until Falco spoke up.

"Captain, hold the charge!" Falco yelled, breathing hard. "We're playing into their hands. Why did they charge together at first, only to split into waves now? Beta darkside spirits aren't supposed to be this tactical. What if there's something else out there — a higher-ranked darkside spirit giving orders?"

The captain's eyes snapped open, realization dawning. His sword erupted into a dazzling light, and a glowing ancient symbol appeared on his forehead. His blade had reached its second change — a sign of elevated power.

Every Shinra weapon could transform three times, each stage unlocking greater strength. The first change was the most powerful, often reserved as a last resort. Seasoned Shinras like the captain always began battles in their third form, saving their strongest for the moment it truly mattered.

With a powerful shout that rang across the battlefield — and through the minds of every court via telepathy — the captain gave a single command:

"To all courts—stop the charge!"
