Chapter 8 - The Alpha's Unwilling Gaze

Alpha Draco's Point of View

I never cared for Omegas. Their presence was fleeting, their scents barely registered, their silent movements inconsequential. As Alpha King, my role was to lead, to protect, to dominate. Omegas were simply... part of the background. Meant to be sheltered, ruled over, and utterly ignored.

But Elara—she was not like the rest. She was a disruption. Her scent. Wild honey, with a hidden, untamed essence beneath it. Something afraid, yes, but also something fiercely independent. It teased my senses every time she entered a room, pulling at something deep within me that I fought to suppress.

My wolf, the restless beast inside me, would go strangely still in her presence, watching her not like prey, but like something impossibly precious.I hated it. I despised how my gaze was constantly drawn to her, how my control frayed whenever she was near.Like today.

The Omegas scrambled in the great hall, a flurry of motion as they set the table for the pack elders. I stood high above, hidden in the deep shadows of the balcony, where no one could see me watching. My eyes, against my will, tracked only her—as she moved gracefully among the others, placing dishes, pouring wine, folding linen. Her head stayed low.

Submissive.

Careful. Just like they were taught. But then her eyes... those grey eyes, so quiet and observant, would flicker up when she thought no one saw.I saw. And each time they met the empty air near my hidden spot, a low growl rumbled deep in my chest, quickly suppressed. My wolf shifted, hot and eager, as if it wanted to leap from my chest and claim her then and there, defying every rule.

A tremor, unwelcome and furious, ran through me. I forced it down, forcing my gaze away, clenching my jaw until it ached. This maddening distraction was intolerable.

She was Omega.

And I had made an oath.Never touch what is below me. Never allow an Omega to occupy my thoughts, let alone my instincts.I gripped the cold iron railing of the balcony until my knuckles turned white, the metal biting into my skin. This undeniable pull, this need—it was Silas's doing. His stench clung to her too.

He was circling her like the snake he was, a predator wanting what wasn't his, what never would be. I knew him too well. He wanted everything I had. My crown. My title. My fate. And now... Elara. That could not happen. Not with him.The door creaked softly behind me, disturbing the thick silence. The air shifted, carrying the faint, earthy scent of ancient herbs.

"Alpha," the Healer's voice cut through the stillness, soft but sharp, as if it had been woven from the shadows themselves. She rarely came to me. Only when prophecy stirred, or when the threads of fate were too tangled to ignore.I turned sharply, my jaw clenched."It is almost the full moon," she said, her tone heavy, as if carrying the weight of the heavens themselves.

Her wise eyes seemed to bore into my soul. "And the Moon Goddess stirs restlessly. A shift is near. One that may break you... or crown you anew."My heart stilled. My own cursed shifts, growing more violent, more uncontrollable by the day, flashed through my mind.A shift? Was it my deteriorating control she sensed? Or this strange, cursed pull to the Omega below, this impossible mate bond that defied all logic?"The Goddess has decided. Tomorrow, fate will fall into place," she said softly, her gaze unwavering. "And you will not stop it."I opened my mouth to speak, to demand answers, to fight back against the unseen forces pushing me. But she was already gone, like smoke slipping from the room, leaving only the lingering scent of herbs and a chilling certainty.I stood there, alone again, staring down into the dining hall where Elara still moved, wiping the goblets, her hair catching the light like spun gold.Something was coming. Something dangerous. And somehow, incredibly, Elara was at the heart of it.

My wolf growled low, a deep, resonant rumble within my chest.Tomorrow would change everything.
