Chapter 2 - What's the news? (or why this system sucks!)

something new, then good news! and horrifying news.

something new I figured out recently is that, if I focus hard enough of that mission statement in my upper left hand, then I can 'open' the 'system' up in my mind.

its not really an 'opening' more like a uncurling? like a flower blooming, but it isn't a flower, instead, its a hauntingly green web of constantly fractalizing crystals that, sort of, shift out of the way? but the best word to describe it is 'open' so that's what I'm gonna call it.

but anyway, once that thing in my mind finishes opening, something like a screen of statistics and values is revealed.

it looks a bit like a status screen you'd see in manhua, but instead of the normal stuff like, you're Name, Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Etc. that would be simplified into easy to digest numbers, it's mostly percentiles, and/or, false statements.

(that doesn't really explain a lot so, ill just put a simplified version of the screen that he sees, below, and in an auxiliary chapter for the up to date stats, which will have a spoiler tag)

---

[Mission: Find the Slayer.]

[Mind: - 89%]

[Map: - 3%]

[Mutation: - 1.2%]

[Magic: - False]

[Malice: - False - 17%]

---

the system didn't even input my name. and I cant even look into the details of these things.

some of them are pretty clear cut, Mission is what the system wants me to do, Map is like some kind of mini-map function? how do I access that? eh, Mind is also kind of explainable, if vague...

Magic is also pretty clear cut, but it kind of sucks that I can't use any, but Malice sounds pretty ominous, but is probably like a, bloodlust gauge? maybe? and Mutation I have pretty much no idea about.

where was I... ahh yes, the news!

Horrible new first, I would rather get it out of the way, I am pretty sure I know where I am. see, I'm not much of a fan of FPS games, but my little brother is and, he likes to yap. a lot.

he'll talk on and on about all these different kinds of worlds, cool guns, badass 'movement tech' that he learned and annoying enemies.

I'm getting off topic, what I mean to say is, his absolute favorite series, it think it was called Rip and Tear, or something? he kept muttering that whenever he got onto play it, the reason I bring it up is because, he asked for a poster of the game on his birthday, and the poster was of a guy in green with a gun, standing over a hill of corpses and shooting at what looked like zombies.

and, besides the green guy, it was entirely, blood red.

I bring this up simply because I remember, in the background of that poster, was a meatball with a wide open mouth, I remember it because I thought it looked funny. the thing is, I saw one of those funny looking things, and remarkably?

those guys aren't that funny when they're trying to eat your decomposing flesh.

so I'm at least a bit sure, that I'm in that universe.

oh, right that leads me to the good news. or well, news that will help me keep myself alive...

either way, whatever that green stuff in my head is, for what ever reason, it also brings me back to the fucking place, no matter how where, or when I die.

that's right, whenever I die, I go back to that death pit, which I assume is actual hell, but then I get dragged back to this farce of a life by those chains like nothing happened.

in fact, as I think this, I am currently getting ripped apart by one of those sadist assholes, with the weird purple and brown keratin.

and as I go back into that pit, the one place where my life isn't in constant pain and peril, and as I was once again pulled back to life, I realized that I forgot to 'close' the connection between me and the green stuff, and as I revived, it pulsed, ever so slightly, but it did.

and [ 1.2% ] turned to [ 1.3% ] on the Mutation score.

don't tell me...

---

as I watch my Mutation percent turn from 1.5% to 1.6% the dread in my nonexistent stomach was solidified into a leaden despair.

as I confirmed the realization that I have to die in order to increase that particular stat, I looked at the others as well.

[Mission: Find the Slayer.]

[Mind: - 76.2% ]

[Map: - 13% ]

[Mutation: - 1.6% ]

[Magic: - False ]

[Malice: - False - 23% ]

my Mind had lessened, but my Malice had increased. which, seems a bit accurate as per my mental state.

but in the doing of my 'experiments' I had also revealed more of the map.(experiments? that's what I'm calling killing myself now? fuck... I'm pathetic...)

what was the good news again..? oh right I already told you that...

uh, yeah, that's all I've managed to think up by now.

that's all for now, voices in my head.

bye.
