"No, sister, you can't do this. We've been sisters for so many years..." Priya Yarrow pleaded, her face pale with fear.
"Sisters? Are you sure we have that kind of bond? Oh well, I guess I'm just too soft-hearted. If you don't want to go to the Moon Palace, there's another way! Convince this useless fool to divorce me!" Sierra said with narrowed eyes. Her main goal today was to finalize her divorce from Navid Byrd. She had already accepted Humphrey Walker's proposal and was soon to become the young lady of the royal family.
Although she and Navid Byrd had never been a real couple, their names were still on a marriage certificate. Her previous threats were because she feared Navid was a power-hungry leech. If he refused to let go, it could be troublesome.
"Divorce? Are you sure you want to divorce me? I'm afraid you'll regret it later!" Navid Byrd scoffed. Even if she hadn't brought it up, he would never want his name on a marriage certificate with her.
Thinking about the years of deceit he'd endured filled him with anger.
"Ha! I'll regret it? What a delusional dream!
The one who'll regret it is you!" Sierra laughed heartily, as if she had just heard a joke from a fool.
Who was she? She was the esteemed Miss Yarrow, the current head of the family.
Even though the Xia family's business had seen better days, they were still considered elite.
Compared to Navid Byrd, the dashing Humphrey Walker beside her was like comparing a firefly to the bright moon. Only a fool would choose Navid, like her foolish sister!
"You say this just to make a last-ditch effort, hoping not to divorce me, right? Fine, we won't divorce, but first, pay the medical bills for the butler and the others—$20,000, not a penny less!"
Sierra Yarrow sneered, demanding an outrageous sum.
"I won't give a single cent. They're lucky they're not dead!" Navid replied without hesitation, feeling a twinge of regret for not hitting harder.
"You broke loser, you probably don't have a cent to your name!" Sierra felt she had seen through this pathetic man.
"So what if I don't? What can you do about it?" Navid shot back, irritated at the thought of being on the same marriage certificate as this arrogant woman.
"I have a little money left. Let's just pay her and deal with the rest later," Priya Yarrow whispered, trying to calm Navid down.
"You don't actually think I'm broke, do you?" Navid looked back at Priya, a bit exasperated. His wife was adorably naive.
Sierra smirked, "Dear sister, your savings probably don't exceed $20. Are you sure you want to keep this freeloader?"
"Even if he is a freeloader, I don't regret it," Priya said with little expression. Whether in the past or now, she was committed to the man in front of her.
"Ha! How touching. So, you like my leftovers, dear sister! If you love him so much, why don't you just convince him to divorce me?" Sierra Yarrow sneered.
Even if they divorced, she had no intention of letting this shameless couple off the hook.
But the pressing issue at hand was getting the divorce certificate sorted out. In three days, she was supposed to marry Humphrey Walker.
Invitations had already been sent out, yet she still hadn't received her divorce papers.
This was bound to become a problem sooner or later.
She had worked hard to latch onto the influential Wong family, and if she couldn't officially secure her position as the young mistress, all her efforts over the past two years to win over Humphrey would be wasted.
"Just get divorce, right now!" Priya Yarrow responded immediately, without even consulting Navid Byrd, making a swift decision.
Ever since she and Navid had spent the wedding night together five years ago, Priya had considered him her man, and she had no intention of sharing him with anyone else.
Standing beside her, Navid was caught between laughter and tears, but he felt deeply moved. It seemed that Priya, despite her seemingly gentle demeanor, had her own principles and was decisive when necessary.
This feeling of being claimed and arranged for was a first for Navid, and he found himself quite enjoying it.
"Great, you know what's good for you.
Guards, escort them," Humphrey Walker said, his eyes dark as he glanced at Navid Byrd. He waved his hand, signaling his bodyguards to surround them. It was supposedly for protection, but in truth, he feared Navid might run off before he could settle his score.
Priya Yarrow felt a wave of anxiety as the men in black closed in, but she forced herself to stay calm. She went inside to fetch her daughter.
An hour later, Sierra Yarrow and Navid Byrd stood outside the community center, having just finalized their divorce. They looked at each other with mutual disdain.
Sierra fiddled with the divorce papers in her hand, feeling a sense of relief. After all these years, she was finally free of this man and could openly pursue wealth and status, becoming the rightful lady of the Wang family.
Navid, on the other hand, tore the divorce papers into pieces and tossed them into the trash without a second glance, as if discarding something disgusting. His action instantly ruined Sierra's good mood, making her feel like she had been thrown into the trash herself.
"Damn those two! Humphrey, teach them a lesson for me!" Sierra fumed.
"I was just thinking the same thing. We're on the same wavelength!" Humphrey's face twisted with malice as he signaled his bodyguards to close in.
"You little punk, you dared to hit me? Today, I'll show you what I'm made of!" Humphrey declared, ready to act without a care for the public setting.
"In truth, I rarely resort to hitting people. I usually just kill them," Navid said with a calm smile, his words arrogant but true.
"Ha! Still talking tough when you're about to meet your end. Rip their mouths apart first, then break their legs! They'll make a perfect pair of ugly fools!" Humphrey Walker shouted, his anger boiling over.
"But you know, my wife doesn't like me getting violent, so I'll just give you a little lesson today," Navid Byrd said calmly, gently flicking his fingers as he held the frightened little girl in his arms.
The bodyguards and Sierra Yarrow thought Navid was just bluffing again, but what happened next left everyone in shock.
One by one, the men in black suits fell to the ground, clutching their stomachs and groaning in agony, as if enduring immense pain and suffering. Their faces turned darker, as if they had been poisoned.
They vomited blood and tears streamed down their faces, terrifying Humphrey Walker.
Luckily, the hospital was nearby, and the desperate bodyguards helped each other, stumbling and crawling their way to the hospital.
After some induced vomiting treatments, the doctors couldn't find any cause. They guessed it might be food poisoning, but that conclusion didn't hold up because there were no signs of poisoning in their blood or stomachs, leaving the doctors puzzled.
Navid Byrd remained indifferent to the results. As the legendary War God and a renowned medical genius, slipping a bit of poison unnoticed was as easy as breathing for him.
Humphrey Walker called his men to take the bodyguards away, but when he looked at Navid again, there was a hint of fear in his eyes. What kind of trick did this man use?
He was sure the guards' injuries were related to Navid, but he couldn't figure out how it was done.
Could it really be that just a flick of his fingers poison entered over a dozen strong men? It seemed unbelievable.
Before discovering the background of the other party, he didn't want to act rashly. He even subtly pulled Sierra Yarrow back a few steps, sensing something strange about Navid Byrd.
"Consider yourselves lucky today. My bodyguards are feeling unwell from some bad food, so I'll let you off this time!"
Humphrey Walker said, trying to maintain his bravado despite the situation.
"Yeah, if it weren't for these useless bodyguards getting sick, you'd be in big trouble!" Sierra chimed in, refusing to back down.
But Navid Byrd, lost in his own world, ignored them completely. His focus was solely on Priya Yarrow and their daughter.
At the entrance of the community center, Navid gently set his daughter down. He then dropped to one knee in front of Priya, his voice filled with deep emotion. "Five years ago, I was deceived by villains and married the wrong bride. Now, I'm free again."
"Beautiful Miss Priya Yarrow, will you marry me?"
Priya's eyes filled with tears as she stared at Navid, unable to believe what she was hearing. Never in her life had she dreamed of being proposed to on bended knee, especially by the man she loved.
"Mommy, are you going to marry Daddy? I'm so happy!" their daughter clapped her hands in excitement, her thin face glowing with joy.
"From this moment on, I will protect you and our daughter for a lifetime, shielding you from harm, giving you happiness and care, loving, respecting, and cherishing you forever. Priya Yarrow, will you marry me?"
Navid continued, his heartfelt confession resonating with sincerity. For five years, Priya had cried herself to sleep, unable to forget the strong man she had spent her wedding night with. She always believed he truly loved her. Today, all her hopes and patience finally bore fruit.
She was filled with happiness, so overwhelmed that she couldn't find the words to speak. Seeing Priya Yarrow silent, Navid Byrd assumed she still resented him. Feeling deeply remorseful, he apologized and made a promise.
"It was all my fault in the past, making you suffer for so many years. Knowing this pains me deeply.
Rest assured, I will reclaim everything you lost and make those who wronged you pay a hundredfold. From now on, there will only be happiness, no more storms."
Priya nodded heavily, tears choking her voice. Whether he could fulfill his promise or not, she was willing to marry this man kneeling on one knee.
His intentions were enough; knowing he understood her suffering was enough...
The crowd around them cheered, delighted by the romantic scene of two lovers finally coming together, and they applauded enthusiastically. But Sierra Yarrow, standing nearby, was not so pleased.
"How disgusting," she sneered. "A loser and an ugly duckling shamelessly seeking attention?
Their child is already so big, and they're just now getting engaged? Isn't that strange?"
Navid Byrd's anger flared at this kill joy. If it weren't for this vile woman, his wife and child wouldn't have suffered for so long. He hadn't even confronted her yet, and Sierra dared to provoke him?
If it weren't for his wife's happiness today and their daughter being present, he would have dealt with this eyesore immediately.
But that's okay; since she wants to climb high, he'll make sure she falls hard!
