Chapter 1 - The Birth

PRESENT DAY – INT. SCHOOL STAGE – DAY

(Han Hae-bin stands on the stage. Face-to-face with people from her school. It is the last day of school and the last day of Class 12. She stands there, proud, confident, and calm, delivering the speech she wrote. She ponders the memories of playing volleyball, spending time with friends, days of hard work, and preparation for this day.)

FLASHBACK: INT. HOSPITAL – DAY (2011)

Han Hae-bin

This.. is where it all started. I was removed from my mother's womb, fragile and delicate. The doctor holds me carefully and steadily as if I were a feather.

Doctor

Wait! There is something else in the stomach

(The doctor pulls something out of the stomach, heavy yet tiny. It was another baby.)

Han Hae-bin

And this is where my twin sister came out, and she is 5 minutes younger than me! Isn't that crazy!

(The doctor kept both of us gently in the crib. We both looked as if we had come from an egg.We were covered with a soft, pink blanket. Then, it was time to show ourselves to our parents.)

Moon A-bin(shrieked)

There are two of them!

(Mom held both of us in her two hands, happily.)

Do A-bin

They are going to become such great and kind twins. Let's call them Han Hae-bin and Kang Ga-bin.

INT. Cuts to the present

(They both are in a hurry to go to school. They both are studying in the same class 4D. Fighting and screaming to find their stuff. Mom packs food for the girls, and Dad is ironing their school uniforms. They settled in and started to pray together as a family. Han Hae-bin pulls her sister's hair hardly, and she cries.)

Mom

What did you just do? This is prayer time, you better not mess around or else God will punish you!

Han Hae-Bin(Giggled)

(And I truly regret doing that because...)

Teacher

(The teacher gave me a wicked smile, it gave shivers down my spine. She handed me my marks for Math, and it was written in bold, red numbers. I got a 15.)

Ahh, this is so annoying!

(The teacher then handed out my sister's marks; she got a 17. She smirked at me and said, "Oh, now your mother is going to compare you both. I gave an awkward smile and looked at my paper with remorse.)

Kang Ga-bin(smirking)

Haha...I got more marks than you..again!

Han Hae-Bin

(I didn't say anything... and stared at my paper with grief.)

"I want to get more than her, so bad!" I thought to myself.

INT. Later that day

(Mom, Han Hae-bin, and her sister sit down on the sofa with the math answer sheet, examining the mistakes by comparing both papers.)

Mom(sternly)

Look! I made you study this, and why didn't you write the way I taught you? Look here, instead of adding, you subtracted it! Are you dreaming or what in the exam?

Han Hae-bin

(We both didn't say anything and just stared at her blindly.)

Mom

Get these papers out of my face.

(She didn't need to hit us — her look said it all, and it broke me more than words..)

Han Hae-bin

I was disappointed in myself for getting this mark, and I knew the only way to make our mom happy was to get good marks.)

Dad

I am home! You know what that idiot boss said,"How much money do you want?"

Mom

And...What did you say?

Dad(cheerfully)

I said I only need 900 won!

Mom

Are you crazy?! We have to get 24,000 won from him! What do you mean by only 900 won! What can we do with that, anyway? I don't care whether you have money or not but you have to pay the fees for the kids.

Dad

I'll do it by the end of the month!

Mom

End of the month? You haven't paid 2 months' fees!

(They fought like this every month... until Dad finally paid the fees. My mom and dad are very kind to others; they always show their jovial side to others and hide their pain with a big, huge smile, and that's what I highly respect them for. Even though they like something, they sacrifice their likes for us to be happy. As dad is the only person who pays for our living expenses, it must be hard for him. My mom used to work but stopped after giving birth to us. Even though my dad complains and loathes his boss, he would never betray anyone or hurt someone purposely.)

(And that I what makes our family bond strong. This is what makes my family unique. "And maybe that's what growing up is — learning to carry their sacrifices, and still trying to find your way.")
