Alex and his mother arrived at Medford High School.
Looking at the school's name, Alex couldn't help but think that everything was too much of a coincidence.
After crossing over, his new body had moved to Texas, Medford, and attended the same school as Sheldon.
For a moment, he thought he was in the world of Young Sheldon.
Besides the same year in which the series' story begins—1989—along with some coincidences, he hoped he was right, but so far, he hadn't found any evidence to confirm his theory.
Despite everything that had happened to him, he felt satisfied with his new life for some reason.
Looking at his mother, who was driving the car while concentrating on the road, he thought about his mother in his previous life, the longing he felt after her death, and the regret that remained after losing her.
Deep down, he blamed himself for his mother's death. If he had arrived home earlier that day, he might have saved her.
If only he had made a phone call... But he had been too busy working, trying to stand out in the company and climb the ranks to provide a better life for his mother.
"Son, what do you want for dinner today?" — A voice pulled Alex out of his thoughts.
"Anything is fine." — He replied without thinking twice.
In his previous life, he was never picky about food, and as long as he could fill his stomach, he would be satisfied.
Noticing that her son had been very quiet since they moved, his mother, Melinda, wanted to start a conversation to break the silence.
"Alright. A friend of mine invited us to go to church tomorrow. Would you like to go with me?"
Alex looked at his mother and asked:
"Church?"
"That's right! My school friend attends this church and invited us to go. What do you think?" — Mother Melinda replied.
Alex thought for a moment. His mother in his previous life also liked going to church and always took him along.
Thinking about that, he saw no reason to refuse.
"Alright!" — Alex replied.
"Really? That's great! I'm happy to have company tomorrow."
Looking at the smile on his new mother's face, Alex felt that this could be a new chance at life that God had given him.
Despite being an only child in this life too, in Alex's memories, his parents had spoiled him a lot.
"..."
After arriving home, Alex went straight to his room, and his mother went to take care of other matters.
Once in his room, Alex looked for books to read. For a man from the 21st century, the lack of cell phones and computers felt like torture.
Moreover, the quality of TVs in this year was terrible compared to the 8K FULL HD TVs of the 21st century.
At that moment, he felt that he wanted to be a business genius. His grades in his previous life could only be considered average—neither good nor bad.
Furthermore, his body was still that of a child. What could he do now?
Looking at the math book in his hand, he decided to study.
In his previous life, he had already forgotten many things, and his new body did not make anything easier for him in this new life.
"..."
Time passed quickly, and it was already night, and Alex was still lost in his studies.
Then, the door to his room opened, and his mother's head peeked in.
She observed that her son was studying so seriously that he hadn't even noticed her opening the door. That surprised her.
Entering the room, Mother Melinda approached from behind and observed her son writing formulas on pieces of paper and taking notes.
Looking at the paper full of formulas and calculations, Melinda was surprised because many of the answers he had written were correct.
Looking at Alex, Mother Melinda, who had always had headaches because of her son's grades, felt that perhaps he was actually a genius.
"Son, what are you doing?"
Hearing the voice behind him, Alex's body trembled for a moment. He was so focused that he hadn't noticed someone behind him.
He turned and saw his mother's figure. A little embarrassed, he spoke:
"I was just studying so I wouldn't embarrass you and Dad when school starts."
Hearing Alex's response, Mother Melinda's eyes welled up with tears.
Noticing that his mother's eyes had filled with tears, Alex became worried, not knowing what to do.
Then, he noticed that his mother was holding some of the papers he had used to solve math problems.
Perhaps his mother had always been concerned about his future because of his grades, and that was why she was so emotional.
"I'm sorry, Mom."
Hearing her son apologize without reason, Mother Melinda wiped her tears, which were about to fall, and asked:
"Why are you apologizing?"
"For always making you worry about me. I promise I won't fool around in class anymore and will take my studies more seriously."
While responding, he looked at Mother Melinda with a determined expression, someone who meant what they said.
Melinda bent down, hugged her son affectionately, and said:
"Silly, Mom just wants you to live happily."
"But now let's go downstairs for dinner. You've spent the whole afternoon in your room."
"What?" — Alex's eyes widened in surprise, and he looked outside to see that it was already night.
He had been so focused on studying that he hadn't noticed time passing.
After that, mother and son had dinner together. And what about the father? He had to work late and didn't make it in time for dinner.
"..."
Early in the morning, Alex's alarm rang, and he got up. Today, he and his mother were going to visit the church.
In Brazil, churches only operate at night, unlike churches in America, which also function during the day.
After taking a shower, getting dressed, and having breakfast, Father Jonas went to work for another day, while mother and son visited the new church.
Mother and son took the car and drove to the church, and Alex closed his eyes to think.
Yesterday, his mother said that the books he was studying were above his grade level.
In other words, he had just entered the 4th grade of elementary school, but he was doing exercises from the 9th grade of high school.
He hadn't even realized it. He had simply thought that American schools had a much superior education system compared to Brazilian schools.
Later, he realized that something was wrong with himself.
For some reason, the math formulas that had been a little confusing yesterday were easy for him to understand today.
"Here we are" — Mother Melinda's voice brought Alex back.
Opening his eyes, Alex looked outside the car and saw many people entering the church.
Then his eyes widened. He saw, on the sidewalk ahead, a woman walking with a pair of children his age, heading toward the church.
Their appearances were exactly like in the TV series: the Cooper family. To be more precise, they were Mary, Sheldon, and Missy.
