Chapter 7 - chapter 7

Calhoun fell to his knees after he changed back to his human form. It was still there, lingering around him that amazing scent that almost drove him completely senile the first time it invaded his senses. It was intoxicating, and he couldn't control himself. His wolf took over. Before he knew it, he was already in the woods searching for the source of this intoxicating scent, and when he finally found it, his wolf had overgrown feral when it sensed a danger. He let out an exasperated sigh as he raised his head to look at her. The same look of fear was still in her light brown eyes as she stared at him and his wolf growl.

"mate!" The word escaped from his mouth before he could stop it, and his wolf urged him persistently to move closer to her, but when she started to scurry away from him in fright, he froze and watched her unmoving as she tried to stand on her feet only to fall back to the ground. His wolf growled when this happened, but Calhoun tried not to rush to her. Instead, he stayed watching as she tried to move but couldn't. He couldn't hold himself back anymore now. He got to his feet and started to walk slowly toward her. Her eyes were barely opened, but she continued to stare at him till her eyes finally closed. She was human, Calhoun could immediately tell.

He let out a growl when his wolf wanted to take control again, but he was able to keep it at bay. Her scent was overwhelming. It was everywhere. "We can't be here," He muttered, his eyes still golden because of his restless wolf.

Calhoun finally gave in to his wolf pestering and slowly continued to walk to her till he was just a few feet away from her. he could see her face more clearly now. His eyes fell on her neck, and he let out another low growl, his eyes showing brighter in the darkness before he forcefully looked away...

It would be for the best if he left now before he did something he would regret for the rest of his life. He knew his wolf would be beyond delighted if he gave in to the thoughts that kept invading his head. If accepted, what was really happening? But Calhoun wasn't ready and would never accept it. It couldn't be, why now? He didn't need it. He didn't want it. It was all useless to him. Having a mate was useless to him. he wanted to scoff at the moon goddess. Was she trying to make a fool of him. was his suffering, not enough for her? Did she want to torture him even more?

If he turned away and left now he wouldn't have to see her again. All he had to do was ignore the intoxicating scent that kept invading his being. Now that he was close to her, it was stronger and drawing him to her. Calhoun closed his eyes to try to regain some control of his sanity. If he left now, she would find her way back to wherever she came from when she woke up. He could hear her heartbeat. She wasn't dead, just exhausted. Why was she here in the first place? He had made sure no one dared to pass through here. All the townspeople knew he lived there, and no one would dare to pass through his territory. His eyes trailed to everything that had been left behind around her. His eyes trailed from the ropes to the burnt-out torches, and it didn't take him long to deduce what had happened. He let out a deep sigh.

She had been taken against her will, probably by Shapeshifters, who tried to make quick cash by selling whoever was weaker than them. Calhoun regarded her in silence for a minute more. He was to leave and return to his silence, but his wolf wanted otherwise. He had to leave. Whatever was happening, he wanted no part of it. He finally decided. He turned to walk away and had only taken a few steps when he froze in his tracks and couldn't move any further.

His wolf protested against him, how they leave their mate all alone in these woods. What if someone tried to hurt her once again. Calhoun wanted to yell out in anger that she wasn't his mate and that everything that was happening was just a big misunderstanding. He reluctantly turned to look at the unconscious lady who had been overly frightened of him like he was going to eat her. He walked back to where she was on the ground and stared at her in silence for a few seconds. "All this will be over soon," said in a low, icy voice as he reached down and picked her up into his arms...
