Chapter 1 - A nightmare so real

Cassandra Ricci - POV

My heart was beating against my chest as I stared into the eyes of the devil. "Pl…please let me go, Chris. I…I will never cross paths with you again." I begged him as tears flowed down my cheeks, which only made his hold on my jawline tighten.

"Do you take me for a fool, Cassie? Did you seriously think that you could escape me with your pathetic mother?" he growled, which made me shut my eyes close as he slammed my back against the wall. "I will consider letting you two live if you do what I say, do you understand?" He asked me when I quickly nodded my head.

He let me go as I fell to the floor like a sack of potatoes as he began pacing back and forth in the trashed living room. "I want you to go back to that small town of yours and get the job as the witch for the white blood pack, got it?" he asked me as I furiously nodded my head. "I will tell you what you have to do later."

I thought he was about to leave when I saw him walk towards my mother and pull her up. I was about to get up from the floor when he raised an eyebrow, daring me to do anything as I silently sat on the floor. "Please just let her go, Chris. I will do as you say."

"I cannot trust you a second time, Cassandra. Until you finish the job, your mother will be with me," he said as he dragged her out of the apartment while I stared at her in despair. Despite being a witch, I was completely powerless.

"Ma'am." I jolted awake from my sleep when I looked outside the window to see that the bus had passed the signboard that read 'Welcome to Crystal View.' "This is your stop." the man said when I nodded my head and began collecting my bags.

The incident that took place a few days ago in my apartment was still fresh in my mind as I pulled my hoodie further down my face and stood up from my seat. As the bus came to a stop, I got down and soon it was off.

Chris and I had been in a relationship for over a year now, and I thought that he was the one for me. He was sweet, kind, and the perfect man from my dreams. I saw him as a gateway to a normal life. I may have been born as a witch, but I was done serving people, and I just wanted to live life the way I wanted it. I thought I knew everything about him until one day, I saw him shift.

He was a fucking werewolf. I mean, it's not like I am not against werewolves, but we can never mate with a werewolf, and so I decided to leave, but that was when he got violent. I tried to explain that this wouldn't work out between us, but only a few weeks ago, I found out that he never even loved me in the first place. He only wanted me to achieve his goals.

I thought if I ran away, he wouldn't chase after me. But I was so wrong when he caught me and dragged me back home. I know I had no choice right now, I had to do what he asked me to do, or he might just kill my mother, the only surviving family I have in this world.

He hasn't told me what he wants me to do exactly, but whatever it is, it's not going to end well. I walked to the curb of the road as I placed my suitcase on the ground and looked ahead. The air was chilly, making me pull the shawl I was wearing closer to my body as I looked at the empty road.

I took out my phone when I saw that it was ten am, and there was still no sign of Abigail. Just when I was about to call her, I heard a car honk as I looked at the road to see a black Mercedes speeding towards me as it came to a halt.

The driver's side door opened and a woman with raven black hair and a huge smile on her face jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards me, and pulled me into a hug. Abigail and I went to the school of magic together, and I decided to pursue a degree while she took up to pursue the advanced magic course and now she is working for a well-reputed pack as their witch.

These past four years, we had lost touch since I had sworn to never return to this town again. "It's so good to see you again, Cassie," Abigail said as she pulled away.

"Same here, Abby. I hope I didn't disturb you." I said when she waved it off.

"Of course not. You are my best friend. And even though we did not keep in touch."

"Thank you so much once again, Abby," I said when she moved to pick up my suitcase, and I helped her load it in the boot before taking a seat inside the car.

"So, what brings you to Crystal View again?" she asked me as she put the car in drive and drove into town.

"I have decided to embrace my fate," I answered when she arched an eyebrow at me.

"Embrace your fate?"

"Yes, I am going to work as a witch full time." I asserted when the car descended into an eerie silence.

"I thought you never wanted this life after…" Abigail didn't finish her sentence, but I didn't say anything either as my eyes clouded with tears. If it were up to me, I wouldn't have come back to this town, nor would I have taken witchcraft again. I lost my father because of magic, but I am not planning to lose my mother as well.

"We can never get what we want in life."
