Chapter 1 - Chapter one

Red eyes opened within a coffin in a manor deep in the enchanted forest.

A land known for inhabiting many creatures and monsters most would consider impossible or mythical.

This forest is known for being cast into an eternal night making many of the nocturnal residents of Et'Dwarda flocked to the forest for reprieve against the sun.

The cover of the coffin slid open. A vampire emerged from the coffin, he rolled his shoulders as he stretched his back and rose to his full height.

He glanced at the full length mirror on the side of the room. It reflected the black clothing he wore but his body was hidden from the mirror.

"It seems that nothing has changed." Galser said as he noted his room had not changed in his slumber.

He had begun to move before the hunger of centuries without feeding hit him all at once causing him to stumble and almost fall.

He caught himself on the stone wall. He felt the ache in his fangs, his mind drifted into a haze. He sluggishly moved to the cabinet near his coffin.

'This type of hunger never changes.' Galser thought.

He almost ripped off the handle of the cabinet as he reached into the cabinet. He grasped a bottle of blood, his breath shook as he pulled off the cork containing the blood. He brought the neck of the bottle to his lips as he savoured the blood.

He felt his mind clear. He slowed down his feeding to enjoy the coppery taste of the liquid that had been preserved for centuries.

He almost moaned in ecstasy as the red liquid coursed through his body. The blood revitalises his strength. He felt his power return as the blood disappeared from the bottle.

He looked at the now bloodless bottle in content. He moved to the window nearest to him. He looked out to the forest that surrounded his home. A dull silver light illuminated the forest below him.

He marvelled at the forest remaining exactly the same as it was before his slumber.

'In three hundred years nothing has changed. Perhaps I should acquire another house closer to other vampires.' Galser thought.

The empty bottle that remained in his hand, his gaze moved to a small wooden house in the corner of his property. Not sensing anyone in his home he threw the bottle towards the wooden home. The bottle travelled past the branches and leaves that almost covered the small wooden hovel.

Broken, the bottle layed on the ground. Waiting for his servant to appear from the wooden house, Galser continued to stretch his stiff body.

After a short time he stopped watching the wooden house.

'Did my housekeeper leave?' He thought.

Leaving his room he looked at the hall leading out of his room. The hall was covered in nothing but dust and cracked stone walls, a clear sign of neglect.

'This hasn't been cleaned in decades.' He thought, his lips formed into a fine line.

His anger rose as he looked at the amount of dust that had accumulated in his home. The filth had even covered a painting he had been given as a gift by a king when he was still a human.

The door to his manor crashed open. He slowly walked towards his housekeeper's living quarters on the border of his land.

'If this werewolf has been ignoring to clean my house I'll drown the mutt.' Galser thought, his eyes glowed a dull red.

Galser noticed that the door to the shack had been left ajar. He briefly paused trying to pick up any scent or sound coming from his housekeeper.

He heard nothing but the sounds of animals that seemed to have invaded the forest surrounding his property, he was unable to smell anything other than the forest that surrounded him.

He continued his prowl to the door, the twigs and leaves crushed under his black metal boots.

He slowly opened the door, and peered into the shack, he noted the absence of any life. His eyes took in every detail of the shack until he noticed within the corner of the room atop of a bundle of cloth lies the remains of a humanoid creature.

'He died.' He looked at bones with a slight amount of fondness. 'I'll make sure to bury you next to your family.'

Galser used his magic to gather the bones into a pile. He then grabbed the bones with his shadow dropping them into his pouch.

'It has been a while since I visited the human settlements.' Galser thought.

He left the wooden hovel. He waved his hand causing a gust of wind to collapse the shack on itself, and with another hand motion the wooded hovel was engulfed by flames disintegrating the shack completely.

Galser watched the flames die out. The smoke from the fire joined with the silvery light of the enchanted forest.

'Need to find out the things that have changed in the last couple of years. Loten had far more than three hundred left. It must have been longer than I thought.'

Pushing open the wooden doors of his manor Galser was greeted by the sight of dust covering his home. Abruptly he turned around and the doors slammed behind him as he left his house.

'I need to find someone to clean this house, or at the very least someone to wake me when I sleep.' Galser thought.

He walked to the edge of his land. The opening that once led to a road was now covered by vines and bushes.

'A lot has changed. I guess it is around that time that I usually meet Zalgah.' He thought. 'She should be able to tell me of the different changes of the lands beyond the fairy king's forest.'

'Is Zalgah's coven still standing.' Galser thought to himself as he wandered around the opening that used to lead out of his land.

'How did entire trees grow over the path? These trees take at least five hundred years to grow.' Galser thought.

Trees and foliage blocked the dirt path leading to a trail that led throughout most of the enchanted forest.

He stood by the opening and reached his arm in front of him. He created a magic circle, a blade of wind formed from the circle. He threw the blade towards thick foliage and vines that blocked his way.

The wind blade destroyed everything it passes through causing the once blocked path to become clear once more.

'At least I know that no one managed to break into my home.' Galser thought he looked at the path that only led to more trees.

He walked down the path as much as he could. He created another blade of wind, and threw it ahead of him destroying another section of trees.

'The path is starting to show again.' Galser thought looking at the dirt road that started to appear on the ground.

As he stared at the ground a creature that had been sleeping on a tree above Galser jumped at him with a screech.

'A Gugwe?' Galser thought as he took a hold of the arm of the beast that lashed out at him.

Galser punched the monkey-like beast in the stomach causing it to let out a scream. He then threw the beast in the air, and he summoned a fireball that consumed the body of the beast.

'I should've harvested it for alchemy parts.' Galser thought apathetically, the ashes of the beast rained down around him.

Wind swirled around him as he gathered the ashes of the beast. Pulling out a vial from his pouch he collected the remains of the beast.

'I should be able to find a use for this, maybe a potion or a lure.' Galser continued to walk down the path that opened up to him.

Walking until he reached a cross section on the path. Closing his eyes he searched with his magic for any living being near him. Only sensing a single living being who wasn't a monster or beast Galser continued down the path.

'Hopefully they could shed some light on the changes this forest has gone through.' He thought.
