Chapter 1 - A new path

Uncertain beginnings chapter 2

After our graduation, the next thing was to wait for our O'level results and UTME scores. The anticipation was killing me. I had worked hard for my O'levels, but I wasn't sure how I'd performed. My parents and I had high hopes, but we were also anxious about the outcome.

When the O'level results came out, I was hesitant to check mine. My heart was racing as I logged in to check my grades. And then I saw it – C's in all my subjects. I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I was grateful, knowing I wouldn't have to retake the exams. My parents were overjoyed when I shared the news with them.

However, I didn't take the UTME exam immediately because my parents couldn't afford to pay for three exams at once. I understood their financial struggles, but it was frustrating to wait. I was also uncertain about my performance. Would I do well enough to secure a spot in a good university?

My parents suggested I learn a trade while waiting for the UTME form to become available. I agreed, thinking it would be a useful skill to have. I started learning fashion designing, which turned out to be more challenging than I expected. I enjoyed the creative aspect, but it wasn't my true passion.

Days turned into months, and the UTME exam date approached. I prepared diligently, despite lacking guidance. I studied hard, pouring over textbooks and past questions. When the results came out, I scored 180, which was lower than I had hoped for to study a health-related course. I was disappointed, but I didn't give up.

Despite my low score, I decided to process my admission because I was tired of staying at home. To my surprise, I was offered admission to study a course I never imagined I'd be in. I was torn – should I accept the offer or wait another year to try for my preferred course?
