NYLAH
I pinned my gaze on Arianna's face. Though not as pale as before, it still held a hint of discomfort.
I wondered if the procedure she had the previous night still hurt.
"Miss Nylah," the doctor greeted as he walked into the room.
"Her results show that she's fine and recovering as she should. She should be ready to leave the four walls of this hospital in a few days." He informed me by going through the files in his hands.
"Thank you, doctor, it's a relief," I replied, meaning my words.
Not only was it a relief that Arianna was going to be fine, but it was also a relief that I would leave as soon as she left the hospital.
After my night with the ruthless Alpha, I'd made sure not to visit the club or be seen near it. I limited my visits to my house and spent my days in the hospital instead.
Just like I presumed, the gold watch was worth even more than I thought it would and it was more than enough to foot Arianna's hospital bills.
However, knowing who Alpha Xavier was, and having heard of his many stories, I knew that it was only a matter of time until he tracked me down and made me pay for my theft.
"You should go out more often, the hospital restaurant has good food. She will be fine, you don't need to lock yourself in here all day with her." The doctor advised, patting my shoulder before walking out of the room.
I smiled in response, not wanting to voice the real reason why I was in the room with my sick friend.
How could I tell him that the real reason was because I was hiding from the ruthless Alpha to have ever lived? After all, I stole from him?
Taking the doctor's advice, I strolled out of the room to the hospital's restaurant for some food and as I sat there waiting for my order of chicken soup and steamed rice, I noticed an unfamiliar figure by the garden at the other end of the restaurant.
Dressed in a black suit with matching black shoes, black shades and a wristwatch. I felt a knot tie in my stomach. The other thought that came to mind was Xavier.
I instantly lost the urge to continue my meal and asked for the meal to go. But when I caught him staring at me intently, I couldn't wait for it to get packaged and hurried back to Arianna's room.
My phone rang almost immediately, startling my soul from my body. With one glance at the phone, I not only declined the call, I turned off my phone as well.
Ever since the second day of my not returning to work, my boss had been calling me every single day without fail and I couldn't bring myself to tell him that my reason for not returning was that I'd not only slept with a client but also stolen a very expensive watch after sleeping with him.
I spent the rest of the day reading magazines the cleaners brought to the room while cleaning and just like the doctor assured me, Arianna woke up that night.
Approximately twenty-four hours after the operation and I couldn't be happier.
We had to stay for some days at the hospital so the doctor could monitor her improvement well and the more hours we spent there, the more I wanted to leave not only the hospital but the city as a whole.
My joy knew no bounds when the doctor finally announced that Arianna would be discharged the next morning. I was so happy that I slept with a smile on my face.
I woke up before dawn to make sure I'd packed all our belongings and nothing was left behind. Even though I hadn't seen the man who scared me to my bones the other day, I knew I couldn't relax regardless.
After taking the drugs and prescriptions from the doctor, alongside a tone of advice, we were on our way home.
I smiled with ecstasy when the driver drove out of the hospital compound. My happiness was palpable that Arianna leaned closer.
"Are you that excited that I'm leaving the hospital? Were you that worried about me?" I was drawn back by her questions but I couldn't afford to hurt her with my answers. Telling her I was happy that I would leave the city tonight wouldn't be a good reply to give so I just shrugged in response.
"You don't want to know how worried I was." She smiled at this and that was settled.
Another thing that wasn't was the fact that I was leaving the city tonight but didn't know how to tell her yet.
By the time we got to her apartment, I resolved to tell her a lie about having work outside the city and would return as soon as I could and keep in touch with her. That should be enough to keep her clueless and safe.
We disembarked the car and made our way inside her apartment and the moment I walked into the living room, she embraced me tightly,
"Thank you Nylah, I owe you my life." I pulled her from the hug and shook my head.
"I know you would do the same for me." That was my short response.
"How did you get the money by the way? The nurse said you spent a fortune for the operation and extra bills." She remarked, offloading things from her bag.
I suddenly felt a lump in my throat that made me unable to speak but I swallowed hard to push it down.
My hesitation made her turn to me but before she could say another word, we were both startled by a loud bang on her door.
"What's that? Who's knocking like that on someone's door?!" She barked, glaring toward the door but as it persisted, I knew just then that my sins had caught up with me.
"The boss wants Ms. Nylah and we know that she is in there. Come out now or we'll be forced to drag you out!" The voice retorted.
I could see the confusion on Arianna's face and I could see the confusion slowly switch to realization as her eyes widened.
"How did you get the money for my treatment?!" She asked again, this time around, shaking me vehemently.
