"Let me go!" Isabella gasps, her hands clawing at my grip.
The rage burns through me like wildfire. Five years of hiding. Five years of planning. All threatened by this nosy cop.
But then reality crashes back. I'm in broad daylight. On a public street. Security cameras everywhere.
I release her abruptly. She stumbles backward, gasping and rubbing her throat.
"You're insane," she wheezes.
"Am I?" I pick up my bag of herbs, my voice returning to normal. "Or are you harassing an innocent citizen based on some wild conspiracy theory?"
She stares at me with a mixture of fear and fascination. "I know what I saw. I know who you are."
"You know nothing."
I start walking away, but her voice stops me.
"I could arrest you right now for assault."
I turn back slowly. "Go ahead. See how far that gets you."
She studies my face, clearly weighing her options. Finally, she speaks again.
"Have dinner with me tonight."
The request catches me completely off guard. "What?"
