I stand in the doorway of my office, staring at an unwelcome sight. Victor Bennett sits in my guest chair, nervously adjusting his tie. Beside him, Zoey Bennett examines her manicured nails with the confidence of someone who believes the world revolves around her.
"Mr. Lancaster!" Victor jumps to his feet. "Thank you for seeing us."
I close the door behind me and take my seat. "What can I do for you?"
Zoey looks up from her nails, giving me a smile that's all teeth and no warmth. "Actually, we're here about what we can do for you."
"Is that so?"
Victor clears his throat. "We've been thinking about our family's future. About strategic alliances."
"Strategic alliances," I repeat.
"With Ace Corporation," Zoey adds, leaning forward slightly. "Specifically with Mr. Steele."
I keep my expression neutral. "What kind of alliance?"
"The most binding kind," Victor says with a meaningful look. "Marriage."
