The knock on my office door interrupts my morning preparation. I glance up from the financial reports scattered across my desk—Ethan Pierce's empire, mapped out in numbers that will soon become zeros.
"Come in."
Sarah, my assistant, peeks through the doorway. "Sir, there's a Ms. Bennett here to see you. She's asking for Mr. Steele."
Chloe. Here. Now.
"Show her to the conference room. Tell her Mr. Steele will be with her shortly."
I need a moment to center myself. Three years of marriage, six months of divorce proceedings, and she still has the power to make my pulse quicken. Not from love—that died the day she called me worthless. But from anticipation.
