# Chloe Bennett's POV#
I smooth my hair one final time before pushing open the hospital room door. Mount Sinai's sterile hallways still echo with the click of my heels, but now I need to appear contrite. Apologetic.
Gabriel looks up from his hospital bed, both hands wrapped in thick white bandages. His face brightens when he sees me.
"Chloe. You came."
"Of course I came." I step inside, letting concern color my voice. "I felt terrible about what Noah did to you. I had to apologize in person."
"Close the door."
I hesitate. "Gabriel—"
"Please. Lock it."
My hand hovers over the door handle. This feels like crossing a line I can't uncross. But Gabriel's family has money. Real money. The kind that could change everything for me.
I turn the lock.
Gabriel reaches for a remote control with his bandaged fingers, struggling with the buttons. The curtains slowly draw closed around his bed, blocking the view from the hallway window.
