Chapter 2 - Learning (2)

Seijuro would go to his room. His room was clean, everything was neatly arranged—he was a neat freak, give him some break.

Going to his drawer, he opened it and took out his notebook—or just his diary. There, he began to write down what he had found.

So, today he learned something: he did not need any sort of eye contact for his Genjutsu to work. All he needed to do was find a way to send the chakra directly to their cerebrum, since the cerebrum basically controlled the five senses.

Hijacking it meant taking control of someone's senses. Though when he does get there, he would use another illusion to target the amygdala. And for anyone wondering what that was—

It was a part of the brain located in the medial temporal lobes, controlling fear and other emotional responses. It processes fear and anxiety by detecting danger and triggering the body's fight-or-flight response.

Basically meaning if he could gain control of those two—going back to the cerebrum—he could manipulate someone's depth perception, if given enough time.

After all, at the end of the day—

Depth perception was basically a bunch of neurons in the medial temporal region of the cerebral cortex.

Opening a book about human anatomy—more specifically, the human brain—he found this:

The primary gustatory cortex, responsible for the perception of taste, is located in the anterior insula and the frontal operculum of the brain.

The anterior insula is found in the insular lobe, while the frontal operculum is situated on the inferior frontal gyrus of the frontal lobe. Neurons in these areas respond to the basic tastes: sweetness, saltiness, bitterness, and sourness, and they also encode the intensity of the taste stimulus.

Research has indicated that the insular cortex, an older part of the brain located behind the neocortex, can represent distinct tastes. This region differentiates primary tastes from one another as well as from personal preferences, providing strong evidence for the existence of a human gustatory cortex.

This was truly good info to go off. For his illusion to be perfect, he needed to know those things—and to know what certain things taste and feel like. If he himself had no idea how something felt, how could he wish to make the perfect illusion of it?

He looked out the window, seeing that same cat from earlier. Making the Ram hand seal, Seijuro watched as the cat, who was enjoying his bowl of milk...

Frowned.

Suddenly, the milk didn't taste as great as he remembered.

Then, all of a sudden, the cat could be seen rolling around on the floor... acting as if... it was drowning. The act was rather convincing.

To the cat, the milk had become an ocean trying to swallow him whole... and no matter what he did, that ocean was always there—lurking in the shadow, waiting for him to make a mistake in order to strike and put him out for good.

Yet, Seijuro wasn't truly satisfied. Sure, he was able to do that to a cat, but ninja were much tougher. He would have to get past their mental barriers, and their senses were a lot more attuned than a cat's, so a simple mistake would and could fuck him over. So, he needed a way to bypass their senses.

Something to make them have some sort of false sense of security... hmm, something to make people believe his ability worked differently than it actually did.

He pondered on it for a bit. His illusion skills were at least high Chūnin level by now. His other stats, however, were lagging behind. His physique was like civilian level. His chakra was, like, low Genin level.

His hand-to-hand combat was like high civilian level and low academy student level. Hmm, he could get there—he just needed to train a bit more. And since the Kurama Clan was at least still a clan...

And since he had the clan technique, a few days before class, he would be allowed to look through their stuff. Granted, he should have been able to do so much earlier, but it was pushed back a bit.

He didn't care much—he just needed something. Anything could do, really. Maybe just master the Academy style alongside the basic jutsu required.

His chakra control was pretty good—heh, he was a Genjutsu prodigy, so of course his chakra control was good. Hmm, he wondered if he should learn Medical Ninjutsu. Could be helpful if he was trying to heal himself in the middle of a very stressful situation.

Hmm... he shall do that—only when he got a decent amount of strength. Or, choose Medical Ninjutsu as one of his extracurricular activities, alongside Sealing. He needed that. Learning how to make his own storage seal would be quite useful, alongside making exploding seals.

Yeah, that could be very useful to someone like him.

He wonders... how would his story unfold? Was the world really ready for the illusion he was about to release upon it?

A/N

Hm.
