Chapter 3 - Welcome to the imperial magic academy

Mason was mind blown after his session in the library. He was also slightly disappointed in humanity, they had transcended above the limitations of nature, above sickness and disease ( at least most of them), they even fought against a race that almost wiped them out but still , even before completely eradicating the enemy they turned against each other for nothing other than selfish purposes.

At the end of his research, he concluded that humanity needed to be 'fixed' , they needed to be reminded that a gift like theirs was supposed to be useful in the advance of civilization and not for selfish use.

He believed that magic power was meant to unite the world but rather in reality, it has caused so much divide among nations and even among magic users.

Some people with some kinds of power attributes were looked down upon as useless and were treated horribly as if they were subhumans.

Mason was disappointed in humanity, but he planned to do nothing about it . He was no activist and the last time he tried to advocate for something,he was murdered for it. Right now all that he could do was to get stronger to be able to defend himself and live an uneventful life while continuing with his research.

Three days later , Mason stood looking at himself in the mirror , he had just turned fifteen and he stood at five feet eight inches tall with jet black hair and green eyes. Today was the day of his enrollment in the magical academy.

He and sister Agatha walked to the teleportation station that would take them to the empires capital of Berlin.

Stepping into the teleportation portal felt like stepping through a freezer but it only lasted for a split second and soon they were in the other side inside Berlin.

The city was filled with people, mainly those that came for the entrance examination.

After sometime they arrived at another portal that would take them directly to the academy. Before entering, they were to discard everything that they came in with except for the clothes that they wore . The people who accompanied them couldn't go beyond that point also.

The applicants then discarded all other items except for their clothes and then stepped into the available portals as instructed.

All these was foreign to Mason who thought that if he were to enter another portal again, he would puke.

After cathing his breath and stabilizing himself, he gazed at the school at least as far as his eye could see and it was huge, it had to be huge as it was responsible for housing over ten thousand students and staff.

An instructor spoke into a communication device that acted as a microphone,

" Good afternoon people, welcome to the imperial magic academy in Berlin. Without wasting any much time , your entrance examination starts now. You will find a booth and follow the instructions of the examiner ."

Soon everyone started Rushing to line up for the examination except for Mason who stood in one spot and scanned the area . He also saw some groups of people standing around nonchalantly and as soon as the lines finished forming, they just cut to the front and nobody complained. This were the big shots of the academy and Mason took a mental note to avoid their vicinity in the future.

After about an hour Mason made his way into a booth , where stated his name and age for for the examiner to record.

He was then asked to place his hand on a transparent orb to find out his magic attribute which he did causing the the orb to him and vibrate for a bit before showing two distinct symbols of different colors.

" Your attributes are rune magic and telekinesis." The examiner said smiling.

He was now told to place his hand on another orb , this was to unlock and measure his magic level which he did but the experience was the most uncomfortable thing he had ever gone through in his life .

It felt like tentacles were crawling inside his brain poking around. He was still trying to get over the uncomfortable feeling when suddenly his eye turned white and he became quiet.

He suddenly could hear incoherent whispers coming out of nowhere saying sweet nothings to him .

Suddenly he felt something click in his brain and suddenly the world was looking vibrant, he could see it more clearly. He also felt a sucking from his body , it seemed like the ball was sucking energy from his body . Slowly the black orb started changing color and gaining light little by little. The entire process was making Mason light headed as if he was coming off an extreme hangover.

He held on untill the orb turned white and started glowing brightly and then he was pulled off the orb by the instructor who looked seemed like he was panicking for some reason.

Inside a conference room the academy chancellor and the deans of the various magic departments sat down looking at holographic images of the examination that was going. They took notes of the participants mostly people to watch out for .

They watched as the students came into the booth place their hand on the black orb and white orb getting their results instantly.

" I think Lambert von Kufstein and Griselda von Bismarck are the ones to look out for in this set of new students. They both possess four elemental attributes and have high magic levels." The dean of combat magic said and the rest nodded .

Suddenly their attention was moved to Mason's booth showing as he got his attributes.

" Wow rune magic and telekinesis, rare and impressive for a commoner . " The chancellor said but suddenly went quiet as they all saw Mason's eye turn white and then the slow introduction of light into the black orb. The level of brightness from the orb showed that his magic level was on par with the best students of the final years .

The deans made a mental note to see if they can mould Mason and make him to fall in line , who knows what sort of accolades they could claim by having a student as him.
