Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 4

Action

A cool, burning sensation surged behind his eyes as Uchiha Fugaku activated his Sharingan. The crimson glow of his fully matured Three-Tomoe Sharingan illuminated the shadows around him. He could feel it—his pupil power sharpening further, the chakra within his optic nerves stirring with growing intensity.

Bit by bit, Fugaku sensed that something deeper awaited. Not far ahead, beyond this prolonged campaign… perhaps the Mangekyō Sharingan. But he knew well that awakening it was not just a matter of chakra—it required emotional trauma, a catalyst rooted in loss.

Still, his Sharingan evolved in strength with each battle, as though drinking in the conflict around him.

Fugaku had already taken down several enemy Shinobi during his covert mission near the border between the Land of Wind and the Land of Rain. He had noticed a pattern: the chakra exerted during the moment of a kill seemed to reverberate within his dojutsu—not in a literal "prompt" as a system message, but in the very fiber of his being.

Though a Genin provided next to nothing, the recent Chunin had left an impression. The stronger the opponent, the greater the growth he felt. It was not a quantifiable system, but a psychological insight—a warrior's instinct honed by war and the power of the Uchiha bloodline.

Fugaku crept from the cave he had taken shelter in. His cloak fluttered silently as he moved under the cover of darkness. The Sunagakure elite squad he was pursuing remained elusive, yet he couldn't afford to leave the borderlands; intelligence gathering on Suna's movements was vital.

To obtain meaningful intel, he had to capture a high-ranking Jonin. The low-ranking scouts and sensor-nin he had previously encountered often possessed limited knowledge—or worse, planted misinformation.

Fugaku pressed forward, stalking the narrow mountain passes. His Sharingan swept the terrain with surgical precision, detecting chakra trails and hidden wire traps. Without his dojutsu, he would've tripped them all. Suna's traps were notoriously difficult to detect—they had learned much from Pakura's explosive ash techniques and Scorch Release tactics.

He moved with measured steps along the muddy ridges of the Rain Country's edge, ever cautious. The stormy mist that blanketed the region gave him natural concealment.

Eventually, his patience was rewarded: a small squad moved silently ahead—one Jonin and two Chunin. His Sharingan could roughly detect their chakra coils—though not to the detailed level of a Hyūga's Byakugan, he could sense that the Jonin's chakra was denser and more refined.

Fugaku did not engage immediately. Recklessness would jeopardize his mission. Instead, he shadowed the squad, allowing them to move deeper into neutral territory—farther from the Sand reinforcements.

When they finally stopped to rest in a quiet glade, Fugaku watched as they set a standard rotating watch. They were cautious—but not cautious enough.

He coated his kunai with a subtle paralytic poison—non-lethal, but fast-acting if it entered the bloodstream. His aim was capture, not annihilation.

The Chunin on watch, sitting cross-legged, was growing drowsy. Two hours passed in perfect silence. It was time.

"Shunshin no Jutsu."

Fugaku vanished from the trees, reappearing in a blur of motion. Two kunai flew through the air with Explosive Tags attached, arcing directly at the two sleeping shinobi.

"Enemy—!"

The lookout's voice cut off in a flash of fire. The two Explosive Tags detonated almost simultaneously, enveloping the camp in a roar of flame.

Fugaku followed up instantly with Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu. The massive fireball lit up the night sky, roaring forward and compounding the chaos.

Two figures leapt from the inferno: the Jonin, scorched but alert, and the surviving Chunin, bleeding from a shoulder wound.

Fugaku didn't hesitate. Shuriken flew toward the Jonin in a suppressive arc while he lunged straight at the weakened Chunin.

The enemy tried to raise his kunai—but his eyes locked onto Fugaku's spinning Sharingan. His body froze for an instant, caught in a low-level Genjutsu—enough to delay his reaction.

Fugaku's kunai pierced through the man's flak jacket. A sharp cry escaped the Chunin before silence overtook him.

The Jonin blocked the shuriken barrage and landed a few paces away. "A Three-Tomoe Sharingan… Uchiha." He narrowed his eyes. "So Konoha has begun mobilizing in earnest."

Fugaku didn't respond. He shifted his stance, drawing more shuriken between his fingers.

"Katon: Hōsenka no Jutsu!"

Dozens of small fireballs surged forward, weaving between the incoming projectiles in unpredictable patterns.

The Jonin used the Body Flicker Technique, dodging sideways and retaliating with a hail of kunai followed by a Wind Release: Gale Cutter—a horizontal wind slash that shredded through several trees behind Fugaku.

Fugaku dodged with a leap, spinning midair. His Sharingan had already tracked the wind blade's path—he twisted cleanly out of harm's way.

Then his eyes met the Jonin's once more.

The Sharingan shimmered. Genjutsu: Subtle Illusion. The Suna-nin flinched, disoriented for a breath. That breath was all Fugaku needed.

Their kunai clashed violently—metal screeching against metal. Sparks lit up the forest as they exchanged blows at blinding speed. Fugaku pressed his advantage: Genjutsu subtly disrupted the opponent's depth perception and timing.

Small cuts appeared on the Jonin's arms and legs. His movements slowed.

"The poison…" the Jonin muttered, stumbling slightly. "Your blades…"

"It's over," Fugaku said coldly.

The Jonin tried to ram his kunai into his own heart, but Fugaku intercepted, grazing the man's wrist with a counter-thrust. A fresh wave of anesthetic entered his bloodstream.

His legs gave way. His chakra flared erratically… then dimmed.

Fugaku's eyes locked onto his. The Sharingan whirled.

"Genjutsu: Mind Probe."

The Jonin's face slackened under the illusion. A faint smile crossed his lips, unconscious of the mental invasion.

"Who commands your unit? Where are Suna's supply routes? How far have your scouts infiltrated into Rain territory?"

The Jonin trembled. His lips parted—but resistance flared in his mind.

Fugaku narrowed his eyes and deepened the illusion. Pain and serenity intertwined inside the enemy's mind, confusing his defenses.

The Jonin's gaze dimmed once more.

"…The main outpost… three days southeast. Hidden in the ravine under sandstone cover… Commander Baki leads the rotation…"

Fugaku released the jutsu and stepped back. The Jonin collapsed into unconsciousness.

The Uchiha's breath misted in the air. He scanned the perimeter once more, then pulled the Jonin's forehead protector loose and slipped it into his pouch—proof of capture and rank.

Mission success.

✅ Key Canonical Corrections & Enhancements:

Mangekyō Sharingan awakening only comes through emotional trauma, not combat or pupil power accumulation.

No "system prompts" like game mechanics; replaced with instinctual or chakra-sensory impressions.

Sharingan can detect chakra movement, not precise quantities or pressure points (that's Byakugan territory).

Genjutsu through eye contact is consistent with canon, especially in combat.

Fugaku uses canon Uchiha jutsu: Fireball Jutsu, Phoenix Fire, Body Flicker, Genjutsu.

Capturing and interrogating via Genjutsu: Mind Probe mirrors tactics used by Itachi and Konoha's ANBU.
