Chapter 3 - The Shopping Spree They Didn’t Understand

Leo Zane's attitude toward Fang Yuqing was cold and indifferent.

Both Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining sensed something wasn't right. But ever since they saw him feasting alone at a Michelin three-star restaurant, assuming he was a hidden rich heir, they weren't the least bit offended by his aloofness. Instead, they eagerly clung to him.

"Hey, Leo, were you eating at that fancy place just now?" Lin Caining asked, trying to sound casual.

Leo frowned slightly. This woman wasn't any better than Fang Yuqing—they were birds of a feather. She'd played her part in stealing food from him during the apocalypse, and even had a hand in his death.

"Yeah," Leo replied curtly, hands in his pockets as he strode toward the supermarket.

The two women quickly followed behind.

"Where are you going now, Leo?" Fang Yuqing asked sweetly, putting on her best smile.

"Supermarket," Leo answered, still cold, with a hint of impatience in his voice.

If he weren't set on letting her taste the agony of the coming apocalypse, he might've killed her on the spot.

Fang Yuqing exchanged a glance with Lin Caining, then quickly said, "What a coincidence! We were just thinking of grabbing a few things too."

Leo had already figured it out.

They saw him spending thousands on a luxury meal, assumed he was some secretive young tycoon, and now they were acting like friendly little kittens.

He didn't bother replying. Just walked straight ahead.

But the colder he was, the more convinced the two women became that he was rich. Otherwise, why be so arrogant?

They flanked him, with Fang Yuqing even brushing up against him on purpose. When Leo looked at her, she'd turn away, blushing like a shy little flower.

Leo sneered in his mind.

Green tea b**ch. With acting skills like that, you'd win an Oscar.

Once inside the supermarket, Leo grabbed a cart and headed directly toward the food section.

The two women grabbed carts and followed him closely.

"Leo, were you eating with someone just now?" Fang Yuqing asked with a fake smile.

Leo kept walking. "Can't I eat alone?"

Fang Yuqing's eyes sparkled. "Oh no, I didn't mean that! It's just… that food looked really expensive. I figured maybe you were treating someone?"

Lin Caining couldn't help chiming in, "Leo, your monthly salary is like $1,500, right? That meal must've cost six months of that. Looks like your family left you a big inheritance."

Fang Yuqing glared at her. Idiot! Rule #1 for gold diggers: Talk emotions with the rich, money with the poor.

Realizing her mistake, Lin Caining laughed awkwardly. "Haha, just kidding! We're all friends. Who cares about money, right?"

Leo ignored them completely.

He reached the food section and stared at the packed shelves like he was looking at a treasure trove.

He had once survived two days on a single pack of instant noodles. Since then, food had become sacred to him.

Without hesitation, he began loading his cart with sausages, noodles, self-heating hot pots, and seasonings—everything in bulk.

The women were dumbfounded.

"Leo, why are you buying so much food? Going camping or something?"

"Yeah," he said flatly.

Lin Caining leaned over and whispered, "Do rich people camp with instant noodles?"

Fang Yuqing was skeptical too, but the memory of that extravagant dinner kept her hoping. Maybe he was just quirky.

She ran up to him eagerly. "Need any help?"

Free labor? Leo wasn't going to say no.

Besides, seeing her force a cute smile gave him an idea: Let her witness his stockpile. Then when the apocalypse comes and she begs for food, he'll slam the door in her face.

Leo smirked. "You two can help push the carts."

Fang Yuqing lit up. "Of course!"

Leo told Lin Caining to get another cart too.

They exchanged confused looks but followed his instructions.

Leo continued to load up. Instant noodles, sausages, cured meats, canned goods—anything that could last. One cart was dedicated entirely to fresh food: meat, fruits, vegetables, even live fish.

He wanted to test whether his dimensional storage could preserve perishables.

When all three carts were full, he handed the heaviest one—filled with beef, lamb, and canned goods—to the two women.

It easily weighed over 500 pounds, and they were soon sweating profusely pushing it.

Fang Yuqing pouted. "Leo, this is so much food. How many people are you feeding? Are you hosting some secret party or something?"

Leo let out a cold chuckle. "The end of the world is coming. I'm just preparing."

Fang Yuqing laughed, thinking he was joking. "Oh, stop teasing! But since I helped you so much today, you owe me a fancy dinner, okay?"

Her eyes sparkled with expectation. She clearly wanted another trip to that luxury restaurant.

Leo smirked. "Sure. But I'm pretty busy this month. Let's do it next month."

Fang Yuqing clapped her hands. "Deal!"

Lin Caining eagerly added, "Count me in too!"

A gourmet dinner for pushing a cart? She was thrilled.

Fang Yuqing shot her a glare, but Lin Caining acted like she didn't see it.

Leo checked out—over $1,500 worth of supplies—and paid without blinking.

In the apocalypse, this stash would be worth tens of thousands.

The supermarket was happy to let him take the carts home.

He had a car, but why bother when he had free labor?

The two women kept complaining about how heavy everything was, but the promise of a luxury dinner kept them going.

And so, the three of them pushed the loaded carts full of survival supplies back to Leo's apartment, drawing curious stares from every passerby.
