SAM POV
I haven't walked long, maybe 10 minutes when I hear the rumbling of an engine and a truck comes into view.
Thank goodness! I'm saved!
I jump into the road and start waiving my arms like a lunatic to get their attention.
The truck slows down and comes to a halt next to me. I see a man in the driver seat.
He looks scary and I'm immediately regretting my choice to flag him down.
"Can I help you?" He askes in a deep baritone voice. He looks directly at me with dark eyes. He has brown hair and a beard and if I didn't know any better I'd call him a bear in a shirt.
"I... uhm..." I struggle to find the words I need to explain my situation. I do notice he doesn't look me up and down as if I am a piece of meat, and it makes me a little more comfortable. And after a minute he also hasn't made a move to get out of his truck. Also a comforting sign.
He's just waiting for me to answer. I swallow hard and take a breath. Calm down Sam.
"I need a ride to the nearest town." I say, my voice sounding more confident than I feel.
He nods his head and looks ahead of him. "Get it, I'll take you."
I look around one last time, making sure I don't have other- or possibly better- options before getting in and hauling my bag up to sit on my lap.
I hold onto it tightly as we pull away.
The bear-man next to me is quite and I'm thankful for it. My mouth feels a little dry and I give a slight cough.
Without saying anything he reaches down next to him and pulls out a bottle of water and hands it to me.
I take a moment to look at him before I take the bottle. He doesn't look like a killer, but I mean, who does? Not even murderers look like murders.
I take the bottle and look at it. The top is loose, but I'm guessing that's because it's his water and he didn't think he'd be sharing it today.
I look at the bottle from all angles and even smell the water. He suddenly holds out his hand and gestures to the bottle. Great, now I don't get any water because I'm too paranoid.
I give it back to him and he takes a big sip before handing it back to me.
I am surprised. Well, if that doesn't mean safe, I don't know what does!
I grab the bottle and down it. I haven't had anything to eat or drink since breakfast and honestly, I'm hungry, thirsty and still tired.
I lay my head back against the seat and feel my muscles relax. What a crazy 24hours. I'm tired beyond belief and just need to close my eyes for a second.
SAM POV
I slowly come back to myself and stretch my limbs. That was a fantastic nap!
I rub my eyes and blink a couple of times. I look at the ceiling of my room.
I just had the craziest dream.
I reach for my cellphone on my bedside table and frown when my hand doesn't immediately land on it.
I look to where my hand is.
Not my table.
I look around the room.
Not my room.
I sit up.
The room does look familiar.
Panick starts to set in.
I'm back at the B&B. That bear tricked me! He did kidnap me!
I throw the blanket of myself and get up, looking for my bag.
There is a knock at my door but I ignore it. Time to go.
"Samantha?"
I freeze. I know that voice. The nerve of this man!
I stomp over to the door and rip it open.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" I scream in his face. He seems stunned for a moment, but anger has taken over my mind.
"You have no right to kidnap me!" I say pointing a finger in his face. "I'm definitely going to the nearest police station and you will be in big trouble, mister!" I scream waving my finger in his face.
His green eyes flash with humour and for a moment my words get caught in the back of my throat. But I'm so angry I could kill him with my bare hands.
He lifts his hands in mock surrender
"I apologize for the inconvenience, but I really do need you here." He says and I can hear the amusement in his voice even though he tries to look apologetic.
"You," I say pointing at him and squinting my eyes, "you killed my car."
"Yeah" He says rubbing the back of his neck and looking away guiltily. "Yeah, I did do that. But I will replace it."
"What is wrong with you people?" I ask irritated. "I don't want to be here."
He looks hurt at my words. Good, be straight forward Sam, obviously hurting his feelings will get you out of here sooner, because almost running him over sure as hell didn't.
He sighs and pinches the top of his nose. "Look, I know this is strange, but I need you here tonight, after that you are free to do whatever you want"
I fold my arms and squint at him. "Are you going to sacrifice me in some sort of weird ritual or something?"
He shakes his head and looks me straight in the eye. "No harm will come to you, you have my word. I will lay down my life to protect yours." He is very serious and I definitely believe him. Calmness wash over me and I close my eyes and rake in a deep breath and let it out slowly.
I have no car and here is no cell service. I'm at his mercy. It will be best if I calm down and co-operate. Hopefully everything will be over soon. Although I have no idea what he's planning.
