Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Discarded Son

The funeral pyres had long grown cold, but the stench of betrayal still lingered.

Jin Seo-Won sat quietly under the crooked wooden pavilion outside the servant quarters. His robes were thin, tattered, and barely fit for a disciple, let alone the fourth son of the sect leader. The other servants passed by him with downcast eyes—or worse, smirks of mockery.

He was not supposed to be here.

Born from a woman without noble blood, Jin Seo-Won had been treated as an outsider since birth. His mother, once a lowborn woman saved by the sect leader in his youth, had died mysteriously when Seo-Won was barely ten. Since then, his life had become a cycle of silence and shadow—always watching from the dark corners while his three half-brothers flourished in glory.

Today, the elders announced the initiation ceremony for the new generation of disciples. His brothers were hailed as prodigies: Jin Yeon-Ho of the Sword Clan, Jin Seo-Jin of the Spear Clan, and Jin Seo-Gi of the Poison Clan. Each one was a favored heir, backed by powerful maternal clans.

But Jin Seo-Won?

He was nothing more than a mistake.

"Still breathing, rat?" sneered a voice.

Jin Seo-Won turned his head. Two young disciples stood before him, both from the Wind Clan—minions of his second brother.

He didn't answer. Not because he was afraid.

But because he already knew today was the day he died.

The sun dipped behind the stone walls of the sect compound. Shadows grew long. The two disciples reached for their weapons, faces twisted in amusement.

But before steel could be drawn, a voice echoed inside Seo-Won's mind.

His vision twisted. The world spun backward like ink drawn into a whirlpool. The pain of his impending death faded—replaced by burning heat across his skin, like being branded by fire.

He screamed—

And woke up.

---

The ceiling was familiar. The cracked wooden beams, the damp smell of moss, the faint sound of servants whispering outside…

> "This is… the servant quarters," he muttered, voice shaking.

He sat up, looking around frantically. The cold sweat on his back soaked through his thin robes. Then, he saw it.

A shard of polished metal beside his bedding, reflecting a younger face.

No longer seventeen. No longer moments away from death.

He was… thirteen again.

> "I came back."

He clutched the bedding with trembling fingers.

> "This time… no one will take my life. Not my brothers. Not their clans. Not this cursed sect."

His eyes burned—not with fear, but with hatred sharpened by time.

> "Let the Heavenly Demon Sect prepare."

> "Because Jin Seo-Won has returned."
