Chapter 2 - The pact.

Sydney walks into Woodsford and her mother says "Oh no you don't, I'll get you a towel. You wait right there."

She scoffs a laugh softly but waits nonetheless by the door until her mother comes back with the towel "Thank you"

Her mom smiles before heading back inside to finish unpacking and Sydney starts drying her off.

Brianna Kane. The highest paying model in the entire world for almost three years now, the internet trolls are still mad that she quit modeling to get married and have kids only to make a huge comeback as the best of the best.

Once Sydney is somewhat dry, she heads inside but heads straight upstairs to her room walking past Adrian and Arian's room on the way and sticks her head inside to see what they are doing.

Playing PlayStation

"We haven't even been here for an hour and you guys are already planning on being stuck up here?"

"We're just playing one game" Arian says without taking his eyes off the screen

"We are in Faircoast" she states the obvious "The girls and I are going down to the beach to catch a few waves, why don't you guys come with us?"

Adrian waves his hand dismissively "Later."

She rolls her eyes before heading to her room, you're probably wondering how the hell can she tell the difference between her twin brothers when they are basically the same person. Well for one Adrian has a scar on his brow from falling off his bike when he was nine and Arian has a birthmark on the back of his neck. When she enters her room, she laughs when she sees the daisy flowers on her bed "Daphne." she murmurs to herself as she snatches it up before pressing it to her nose. None of them are sure when the tradition started with Ivory bringing them their favourite cupcakes on the way here or Daphne putting their favourite flowers on their beds but now it's something that they do every summer.

She wonders if they got the books she snuck into their bags. Okay, so her tradition may be a little more silly because who exactly wants to read during summer right? Sydney. It's the nerd in her. She always was embarrassed that she wanted to spend time reading instead of running crazy around the entire summer but the girls made sure she knew it was okay by them reading too. So every summer she packs them each a book she thinks they'll enjoy and at the end of summer, they'll discuss it.

She's sorting through her clothes looking for a bikini when her phone dings with a text and she rolls her eyes when she sees what it is. One of the guys in her maths class shared a screenshot of Roman's Instagram, it's a picture of him at graduation with the caption 'Number One, baby.'

Sydney was beyond pissed when Roman got made Validation, it's no secret that the two of them spent the entire year going at each other's throats to be Valedictorian and he rubbed it in her face when he got picked. Not that she blames him, she too would've been smug about it if it had been her. She's pretty sure he has her blocked on Instagram, she would know because at one point she tried stalking him. She wishes she could say that Roman Dawn is your typical rich boy but he's actually not. Sure he drives an Adastra since he was sixteen and parties like the world is coming to an end but he's actually really smart and takes his education just as seriously as her, if not more.

She throws her phone on the bed and picks the maroon bikini Daphne's mom got her from Italy before heading to the bathroom and changing into it. She tries not to think too much about the fact that this is the last summer at Faircoast before she and the girls go off to college. Differentcolleges.

She got early acceptance at Harvard because her mind is pretty made up on the fact that she wants to be a lawyer. Daphne got accepted at University of California because it's one of the best schools with a psychology program. Ivory got accepted into the University of New York because of the veterinarian course it offers. Once summer is over they'll all go their separate ways and the thought made her depressed but she's not going to let that affect her, because she plans to live in the present and right now she's going to surf the waves with her best friends.

"Dad?" Sydney frowns hours later when she sees her father not yet dressed for dinner "Are you not joining us?"

"Uhm…" he glances at his watch like he had completely forgotten about the time "You guys head over while I get ready then I'll meet you there."

"Alright then"

Benjamin Kane. People like to refer to him as the retired football player turned businessman. Many judge him for his decision too, because why would he give up playing pro for sitting behind a desk and drowning himself in meetings? Well he actually took a hit so hard to his head everyone thought he was going to die. He thought so too. Made a promise to himself that if he ever survived he would quit. Sydney was just seven at the time but her mother refers to it as one of the scariest moments ever, not knowing whether the love of her life was going to live or not.

"He told us to go ahead, he'll meet us there." she relies the message on to her mother who frowns before nodding

"Okay, let's get going."

Sydney, her brothers and mother head over to the main house where dinner will be held tonight. They have a bigger dining room which means a bigger table. When they reach Haarton, the boys immediately head to Liliana who is watching a show on the television in the living room and her mother heads to the kitchen where she can hear Jillian and Nesta. She doesn't know where the guys are but starts climbing the stairs and instead of heading to Daphne's room, she heads down the hall and climbs another set of stairs that leads to the attic.

"This is so much smaller than I remember" she says to the girls who are laying on the attic floor as she looks around.

Daphne pipes up "It's the old drawers, my mom had it moved up here because it's broken but she's too sentiment to throw it away"

Sdyney lies down as well, with Ivory in the middle who says "I can't blame her. I don't think I'll ever get rid of the beanbag chair in my room even though I hardly use it."

Sydney smiles up at the ceiling, she likes knowing that this place is special to every single one of them. Daphne takes a joint out of the pocket of the dress she's wearing, which is a light blue colour that flattered her hair and made her eyes pop while Ivory is wearing a pink dress with different colour flowers on it. Sydney decided to wear a red dress with little white hearts. She glances around to make sure the door is closed and the window is open as Daphne lights up the joint before taking a drag then passing it to Ivory who seems to hesitate for a second before taking a drag and coughing before passing it to Sdyney who smokes as well. And for a while they lay on the floor next to each other, passing around the joint until Ivory says she's done then Sydney too and Daphne is the only one who finishes smoking it.

Ivory is the one to address the elephant in the room "Last summer, huh?"

Syd turns on her side to face her as she continues staring up at the ceiling "You're making it sound like this is our last summer together. We'll see each other again next summer here."

"But it'll be different then," she says.

Daphne turns as well to face them as she adds "Ivory's right. We won't be together the entire year like we were at Bluedale."

"We'll still see each other though. At Christmas, thanksgivings, new years. We'll call each other a lot too"

Always the voice of reason.

But even as Sydney says the words she knows it's not entirely true, because Christmas they spend with their family. Thanksgiving too. Daphne in France, Ivory in England and Sydney in Spain.

"Dinners ready!"

Daphne groans as she sits up "I'm about to devour whatever the moms cooked."

"Let's make a pact" Ivory says suddenly which brings their attention to her "No matter what this fall brings, we'll always run back to each other."

"Always" Sydney says as she sits up as well which makes Ivory sit up too.

"Always" Daphne agrees.

They hardly needed to make a pact, because they knew that no matter where life takes them they'll always have each other.

"This summer we have to have so much fucking fun and I don't mean the things we do every single summer, I mean actual fun" Ivory says.

Sdyney raises an eyebrow "Like partying? Sure, Iv."

"No I mean like hooking up with guys we'll probably never see again, sneaking out and skinny dipping in the ocean late at night"

Daphne nods in approval "I agree. We're finally eighteen, this summer should be different. One for the books."

Sydney blinks as she glances between the two of them and a thrill of excitement goes through her body at the thought of being reckless for a single summer before she becomes some stuck up Ivy student. Daphne is always the reckless one whose motto is you only live once, Ivory the one who let's lose now and then but stays on the right path and Sydney was the one who always felt the need to do the right thing, the girls usually has to convince her to have some fun and for once she wanted to be reckless. "Fuck it, let's do it."
