Maya was just about to lay down for the night in her small house near the entrance of the cove, when the alarms started going off. In the 50 years since she opened the cove it has never sounded. Not knowing where the threat was coming from she quickly got into her armor that she hadn't needed since her time in the sidhe realm and headed out the house. She stopped and looked at herself in her armor. She didn't even recognize herself. The last time she wore this armor is in the sidhe realm right after finding out she wasn't human but infact a sidhe hybrid. She use to have bright blond hair and blue eyes, a glamour created though the changeling spell, now she has bright blue hair and gray eyes, and wings that look like glass. The only tell that she was a hybrid instead of a pure Rusalka are her grey eyes, only draconians have white or gray eyes. She shook herself out of her thoughts and ran out of the house. The shining barrier that was the entrance to the cove was dull and lifeless, no longer shimmering with the moonlight, maya was scared the barrier can only be down for 20 minutes before the water from around the cove will come crashing in the rusalka and rusalka hybrids will survive and will attempt to save as many as they can. As Maya ran she hoped she could save her people and close the barrier in time, but the question remained what could cause it to fail, the queen of the sidhe created it and no one should have been powerful enough to break the spell.
Maya ran to the guards at the barrier, two of her best friends, Mark and Veronica, two of the most powerful rusalka hybrids. They look to be trying to stop a crowd of panicked sidhe. Maya ran to them and quickly asked what happened, mark quickly explained that the barrier flickered and then out of nowhere a small fishing boat appeared, and as soon as it did the barrier flickered and went down, mark explained how Veronica went to investigate and found a air pocket with a closed basket in the boat.
Maya was shocked, how would a boat get here they were at the bottom of the ocean. She decided to worry about it later, she reached for her necklace that held the only back up for the barrier, she broke the pearl off and set it in the middle of the barrier and used her water magic to poor as much of her magic into it to activate it. The pearl glowed and expanded, as it got bigger it became shimmering and see through until it coved the entire barrier.
Maya asked Veronica for the basket. She gently removed the cover and audibly gasped as what she saw was a beautiful little purple hair and eye baby that looked like she was only a few days old. The minute Maya saw her she fell in love. She worried about who the baby was and how she took the barrier down, but Maya knew she would do anything for this child, after announcing to the crowd and her friends that the barrier was once again safe she announced that she would raise the child as their was no way to find out where she came from.
As Maya walked home she decided she wanted to name the child Lyra. Maya rocked Little Lyra in her favorite rocking chair as she summoned a bottle of milk to feed to her.
As the baby drifted off to sleep he stomach full, Maya wondered what Lyras future would hold.
