Chapter 52 - A Daughter's Doubts

I sat on the living room couch, staring at my phone for what felt like the hundredth time tonight. No missed calls, no text messages. Julian hadn't called for our nightly chat like he'd promised. I'd tried calling him repeatedly, but each attempt went straight to voicemail.

"Where are you?" I whispered, fighting back tears.

This wasn't like him. Julian never missed our nightly calls, not even when he had important pack meetings. He always found a moment, even if just to say goodnight. Something had to be wrong.

The sound of footsteps made me look up. Dad stood in the doorway, his tall frame casting a long shadow across the room. His expression softened when he saw me.

"Still up, sweetheart?" he asked, loosening his tie as he walked in.

I nodded, trying to blink away the moisture in my eyes. "Julian hasn't called."

Dad's face immediately hardened. He never tried to hide his dislike for my fiancé.

"Perhaps he's busy," he said coolly, sitting beside me.
