The Abyss is the collection of all of humanities (and others) fears of the unknown, The eerie sounds in the night, the crunching in the darkness, the figure can't quite see. But since the dawn of time itself, the Abyss was pushed back with humanity's simple discovery of the all-mighty flame. The abyss was slowly conquered and crushed, pushed down from its throne as the Dominator of the Night, but the Abyss didn't just disappear, after all as long as humanity feared, so the Abyss stayed near. But as the Abyss was crushed down, it started to condense, the fears coalesced into a nightmare so potent it poisoned the soul. Then as the eons passed, it collected, drop by drop, into mankinds biggest unkown, the deepest darkest depths of the endless sea. 


The Abyss both pute concept of the fear in the unkown and place so unreasonable and chilling.
