The stars moved slightly like they were trying to communicate with me and I just found myself trying deeply to listen.
I couldn't stop thinking about him..
I didn't know why, but I just felt that a part of me would leave if he left. Maybe it was due to our mate bond..or the fact that I somehow pitied him.
Whichever it was, I wasn't going to let it pull me down.
He chose his path his way so why did I have to bare the consequences of his decision?
Neither the less, I wouldn't let his stubborn pull the city I cared for much for all into the drain.
I turned around to rest my back on my bed and I could remember how joyful Liam used to be when he was little. When we were still little kids..
At that time he was still quite indifferent and calm, but he still always loved to play and sing with me.
But now, the Liam I had known so well before wasn't the one I know now..
The new Liam had something more in him that the former didn't.
He was ruthless, carefree and seemed more evil.
Although I knew he was half demon and demons were indeed ruthless and evil, but that wasn't enough for me to understand his sudden hatred for me.
I twisted and turned continuously before finally falling asleep..
…
"It's today, I can't believe it. The immortal will die finally." I heard a familiar voice say from a corner.
"Yes, I'm so glad too." Someone replied. "Wait, isn't that, Mira?"
With that I realized that it was exactly who I thought it was…
"Sila.." I pretended to be surprised to see her
"Mira.. it's a pretty your prince charming will die soon." She chuckled as she approached me with her minions.
"I don't think that will be a pity to me only, rather the whole Cridwan Pack will suffer for it." I said and hopped my way happily into the woods to see my father at the mountains.
I could feel them staring at me and I could only imagine their shocked expressions..
But my words were true…
The whole pack would suffer the punishment of the moon goddess.
I carefully changed into my werewolf form as I ran deep into the woods to the mountains, but a sudden shadow halted my steps.
The shadow disappeared suddenly as I sighted it and my heart raced as I got scared to my lungs.
I managed to use another path that led to the mountains and I questioned my father if he had perhaps sighted any shadow pass by, but he shrugged and replied.
"I didn't see, but I felt."
"Meaning? Did you see it, father?" I asked again.
"I felt it!" He said.
"So it was a spirit?" I asked.
"It will show it's self if it wants to." He said simply and resumed his meditation.
I sighed and looked down at the far ground from the high level of the mountain if I would sight the shadow again, but I found nothing.
"I'll head back now, father. The execution will begin soon." I said and rushed down the mountain and ran with all my strength in order not to sight or feel the presence of the spirit again.
When I got back the ceremony for the sacrifice had already began and I searched for Liam admist the other people brought out to be given as sacrifice to the moon goddess.
Often times this was the punishment given to criminals or those who disobeyed the laws.
And Liam did none of this…
I searched high and below but I just didn't find him anywhere near the altar where the others were placed.
Everyone anticipated the arrival of the guards who left to bring out the immortal so the ceremony could begin, but then one of the guards suddenly ran towards the general like a helpless maniac and my heart suddenly began to race.
Tension suddenly filled the air as the people had sensed what was going on.
"No one panic. He will be found!" The general said, mostly trying to convince himself.
"He will not be found!"
I suddenly heard my father's voice from behind and literally everyone turned to his direction.
He walked towards the crowd with his wizard stick and a path was made for him to walk up to the general.
"You have made a really wrong decision that could cause the moon goddess to lay a curse on this pack. We all have to be careful." He said.
"As for the immortal you claim he is. He won't be found any sooner as he is long gone even before you laid your beds or before this ceremony began." He turned around and walked back to the direction in which he came through a while ago.
"That is all I have to say."
I watched him closely and I figured that my father may not have helped Liam escape but he must have been aware of when he had exited the tunnel..
But the question was..
How?
How and when did he leave? And who had helped him?
Suddenly everyone turned their gaze towards me and I knew that I was their number one suspect.
"That wolf must have helped him since they have a mate bond." I heard one say.
"Yes, we saw here carrying some fish and water to him." Sila and her minions suddenly busted in.
I could only curse under my breath, hoping for a miracle.
"Mira is innocent." A familiar voice suddenly spoke behind me.
"Those she brought in for me and we usually chat a lot so that's why she's often at the dungeons territory." Karl added and I was indeed glad to have him as a friend.
He was the best company I could ever have.
"Those are all lies." The people thundered and I took the opportunity to give a run for it and so did Karl.
We both changed into our wolf selves to run faster and found shelter inside a small cave.
"We'll have to head back after two days or more when everything is well settled." Karl said but I was too deep in thoughts to give a listening ear.
"Mira, Mira, Mira. Are you there?"
"Ah..yes, I was just lost for a moment." I replied with an awkward smile.
"You really don't need to worry too much about it" He said and held my hand gently.
"We'll surely return back when everything is settled but for now we need to try to survive out here for two days or more." He said with a gentle smile on his face and pulled me close
I nodded and found comfort in his embrace.
I knew exactly that this would be what Liam had planned out all along but what I didn't understand was if he was the strange shadow I saw in the woods..
And if yes, then why was he still lingering around there?
All I needed weee answers and more answers as the strange shadow gave me continuous goosebumps.
