Chapter 17 - A decision

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking a lot about this fanfiction and where it's heading. To be honest, I've run into some trouble with Dante's powers. The truth is, there's a fine line where I could accidentally make him too overpowered—and I really don't want that. But the nature of his current powers means that, sooner or later, he will become overpowered, even if I try to hold back.

So here's what I'm considering:

I could either continue the story like normal with Dante keeping his demonic powers, or—I could write in a change where Dante loses those powers and awakens a new mutant ability instead. That new ability would be the power of a Viltrumite (like from Invincible).

Before anyone complains—there are pros and cons to both options:

If I keep his current powers:

You'll get the version of the story you originally signed up for: a main character with demonic powers, cool fights, wild transformations. But the writing quality might dip in some places because I'll constantly be trying to balance him.

And please don't just say, "Give him fewer skills." I can't. I've already established that gaining skills is easy for him, so not giving him more when he logically could would feel like a plot hole. I'd be stuck either giving him a million skills (which would overwhelm the story), or pretending he's not overpowered when he clearly is.

If I change his powers to a Viltrumite ability:

We'd have a clear, understandable power cap. It would fit better with the kind of story I'm trying to tell—one where Dante isn't the strongest person in every room and actually has to grow. If we really need him to reach higher levels later, we can tweak things (like making him reach double the strength of endgame Invincible). But the point is: it would be straightforward, balanced, and easier to write well.

Honestly, writing fanfics has taught me that simple powers usually work better, especially in settings you don't fully control (like Marvel). Having clear boundaries and avoiding OP nonsense actually makes for better storytelling—and that's what I want for this story.

Don't worry:

I'm not just going to suddenly start the next chapter with different powers out of nowhere. I'd write a proper arc where Dante loses his demonic powers in a way I think you'll really enjoy. His mutant powers would awaken after that moment, and the change would feel natural.

So I'm asking you:

What do you think?

Yes

or

no

If you want to know my preference… then yes. I want to change his powers. I think it's the best choice for the future of this story.

Let me know what you think.

If the decision ends up being Yes Then keep in mind that it's all will start from chapter 27 so ignore all the power ups that he will gain until then
