Kai's POV
The ground trembled. The crowd gasped.
A section of the field split open with a deep, groaning crack, and out crawled the most vile, mutated fuckers you've ever seen. Twisted wolves with skin like rotting leather, eyes the color of spoiled milk, teeth jagged and yellow. They reeked of death, blood, and old nightmares.
Children screamed. Grown wolves turned away, faces pale and sick. Some she-wolves sobbed openly.
My heart was pounding like a drum, so loud I could hear it in my ears. Every hair on my body stood on end, my skin tingling like it knew something wicked was coming. Butterflies? Please — it felt like a whole damn zoo was loose in my stomach.
Violence.
God, I loved it.
Rain's face went ghost-white, her legs buckling beneath her as she collapsed onto the dirt, staring in terror.
Gods, it was beautiful.
"You're doing it again," Nara muttered beside me. "You're fucking smiling."
"Mind your godsdamn business, bitch."
