Zayne's POV
The explosion hit me against the stone wall so hard that I felt my ribs cracked.
"Get down!" I shouted to my vampires as another blast shook the castle. The hunters weren't just attacking, they wanted to destroy the whole place.
I looked out the window after wiping blood off my mouth. Fire was everywhere. My people were running and shouting. Bodies were scattered across the courtyard like shattered papers.
This was my mistake. I'd waited too long to act.
"My lord!" Marcus limped toward me, his arm hanging at a strange angle. "The main gate is broken. They're inside."
My stomach dropped. If the hunters had breached our defenses, we had maybe minutes before they reached the throne room.
"How many of our people are still alive?" I asked.
"Maybe thirty. The rest are..." He didn't finish, but I understood.
Thirty vampires against an army of hunters. We were going to die.
