Zayne's POV
The prison door exploded and opened.
I stood in the burning doorway, watching Penelope jump back from the iron bars. Her gray eyes flashed with anger, but I could smell her fear too. Good. Fear would keep her living.
"Get away from me," she growled, pressing herself against the wall.
"I'm not here to hurt you." I walked in, closing the door behind me. "I'm here to show you something."
"Like how you lied to me? How you stole my power?"
Her words hit harder than I expected. "I didn't steal anything. It was freely given."
"Because you tricked me!"
I moved closer, and she raised her hands. Power crackled between her fingers like lightning. But instead of backing away, I smiled.
"Do it," I said softly. "Let it out. All of it."
She blinked, confused. "What?"
"Your power. You've been holding back your whole life, haven't you? Afraid of hurting people. Afraid of being too much." I took another step. "You don't have to be afraid with me."
