Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Controlled Power, Uncontrolled Hearts

After realizing he could complete his mission using help from the girls, Yuki no longer held anything back. With calm confidence, he led Saeko Busujima and Shizuka Marikawa down the halls of the ruined school, cutting through the undead with effortless precision as they guided him toward the exit.

His steps were quiet, precise—yet every zombie that crossed their path was reduced to nothing more than ash and fragments.

By the time they reached the first floor, the air was thick with decay and death. A larger horde had gathered here, snarling and groaning, drawn by the scent of the living.

Among the moaning crowd, three terrified students were backed into a corner. The undead crept closer, surrounding them.

When Yuki's group appeared at the far end of the hallway, the students' eyes lit up with desperate hope.

"Help! Help us—please!"

"Save us!!"

Their voices were high-pitched and frantic, but instead of helping them, they only ended up drawing even more zombies toward their position.

Yuki didn't move.

He stood there silently, arms crossed, his golden eyes calm as ever.

"Well?" he asked, glancing sideways at Saeko. "Should we save them?"

Saeko's eyes narrowed coldly. She didn't even hesitate.

"From the way they acted just now, they're nothing but fools. Cowards."

"In a world like this… dragging along the weak only slows you down."

Her voice was quiet but firm. No emotion. Just truth.

Yuki nodded slightly, his gaze lingering on her face with a hint of admiration.

As expected of Saeko Busujima—sharp, decisive, and ruthless when it counts. A true Yamato Nadeshiko… Elegant, graceful, and unshakable under pressure. The kind of woman who'd make an ideal wife in any era.

Even Shizuka, usually so bubbly and lighthearted, understood what was happening. She didn't try to protest.

Saving someone was easy. But deciding if they were worth saving that was the real challenge.

Despite her clumsiness and carefree attitude, Shizuka wasn't some naive saint. She saw the truth as clearly as Saeko.

The three students realized they were being ignored.

"You… You're just going to stand there?!"

"WHY AREN'T YOU HELPING?!"

"No… NOOO!! PLEASE!!"

Their pleas became screams as the zombies closed in.

In moments, all three were overwhelmed.

Flesh tore. Blood splashed. Screams echoed—then fell silent.

Yuki waited patiently until their lives were snuffed out.

Then, with complete calm, he raised one hand.

His fingers clenched into a loose fist—then he threw a punch straight toward the lobby ahead.

BOOM—!!

The air cracked like thunder. The sheer pressure from that one punch rippled through the lobby, and within an instant, every single zombie in sight was obliterated.

But Yuki's control was masterful.

The destructive wave hit only the zombies—not the structure. The walls remained intact. The floor uncracked. Only the undead—and every loose object near them—were turned into dust, not even ash.

They simply ceased to exist.

Saeko's breath caught slightly. That punch… that display of control—it stirred something deep inside her.

So clean. So precise. So... dominant.

Raiden Ai: "He didn't even damage the building? How?! That's insane!"

Artemis: "That punch looked simple, but it was perfect. He compressed the energy just enough to erase everything in its path."

Artemis: "I could barely see it, but… everything that punch touched turned to nothingness."

Seitenshi: "I don't really get it, but it sounds super cool!"

But the destruction wasn't only seen by his two companions.

On the far side of the school, hidden in a storage room, two pairs of eyes watched from the shadows.

When they saw Rin Yuki turning to leave the lobby, they looked at each other—then rushed out.

Yuki and the girls had barely stepped outside when they heard hurried footsteps and frantic voices behind them.

"W-Wait…! Where are you going?!"

"Can we come with you?!"

He turned.

Two girls sprinted toward him, eyes wide, breathing heavy. One was tall with a curvy, athletic build and long golden hair that whipped behind her. The other had peach-colored twin tails and striking pink eyes—her expression a mix of fear and admiration.

Rei Miyamoto and Saya Takagi.

As they got closer and saw Rin Yuki's face clearly—his impossibly beautiful features, his calm presence, his raw, overwhelming charisma—they froze.

Their cheeks turned bright pink.

Their steps slowed.

Their breathing caught.

Their eyes were locked on him like prey staring at the apex predator.

Yuki's gaze flicked over them casually. He recognized them immediately.

Rei Miyamoto and Saya Takagi—two of the main heroines from the original story. Interesting.

But something was off. Logically, Rei should've been with her childhood friend, Shōta Komuro, and the gun-freak, Kōta Hirano. So where were they?

Yuki tapped into his omniscient ability, scanning the truth of this world.

What he found… was intriguing.

This world was not exactly the same as the anime.

Rei and Shōta were childhood friends, yes—but she had cut him off long ago, never once liking him romantically.

As a result, she had never dated Takashi Igō either.

During the outbreak, Rei and Saya had panicked and hidden in a storage room.

Shōta was still on the rooftop—with Kōta Hirano and Takashi.

And that wasn't all.

With just one thought, Yuki now understood the origin of the undead, the system's purpose, and all of this world's hidden layers.

Saeko turned to him, quietly.

"What do you think?" she asked.

She didn't make the decision herself this time… She's waiting for his judgment.

In a very subtle way, Saeko had already begun to lean on Rin Yuki—not just as a protector, but as her leader. Her center.

For someone raised to be a refined, obedient woman, Saeko instinctively knew her place in the new world.

Yuki didn't respond immediately.

Rei stepped forward first, her voice firm. "We won't slow you down. We can fight too!"

Saya nodded. "Yeah. Just give us a chance!"

Yuki's gaze flicked over them once more. Their forms. Their strength. Their potential.

He nodded.

"Fine. You can come."

"But if you're with me… you follow my orders. Always."

Rei and Saya's eyes lit up. Their faces beamed.

"Thank you!"

"You won't regret it!"

Saya, never one to stay humble, crossed her arms and spoke proudly.

"My parents are powerful people. If you help me, they'll definitely repay you!"

She wasn't lying.

Her mother, Yuriko Takagi, was a former Wall Street legend—one of the most powerful women in global finance.

Her father, Sōichirō Takagi, led the Patriotic Citizens' Alliance, the strongest faction in the city.

But Yuki's expression remained cold.

Sōichirō Takagi's gratitude? I don't need it.

He could see the future.

Sōichirō's days were numbered.

As Saya kept speaking, Rin Yuki's thoughts were already shaping the man's fate. With a single intent, he rewrote Sōichirō's future—death by irrelevance.

If there was any "repayment" to be had?

He'd take it from Yuriko, not her husband.

He looked at Saya, indifferent. Then turned and walked away without another word. Shizuka followed him closely, practically glued to his side.

Saya blinked. Her confident smile faltered.

And then—

Saeko stepped forward. Her voice was gentle, but carried steel underneath.

"Listen closely, Takagi."

"In this world… your parents' power means nothing."

"No one cares about how important they were. And Yuki?" She paused.

"He cares even less."

Saeko's eyes locked with Saya's.

"Remember that."

Without waiting for a reply, she turned and followed after him.
