Chapter 26 - The King arrives

William flew above the battlefield; his suit riddled with holes. He had slain thousands of Flaxan soldiers, but they just seemed to keep coming, and the front-line defenders were starting to falter.

He looked over to see that War Woman had lost her left arm, but despite the lost limb, she continued to swing her mace into the approaching hordes, which would weave through the lines of Flaxan troops, turning every Flaxan it collided with into purple and pink mist before returning to her hand.

She would then spin it in place to block a volley of laser beams concentrated enough to force her backwards a few feet.

Seeing that she had this under control, he looked over to another spot to see Immortal in need of help against a group of golden juggernauts, having been impaled by many swords and looking worse for wear.

William flew so fast his body generated a line of afterimages behind him, and as a golden juggernaut was about to chop downward in an effort to sever Immortal's head.

CLASP!

The juggernaut got caught on something and looked up to see what it was to see William holding the flat of the juggernaut's blade with both hands.

Taking advantage of the momentary pause in the juggernaut's thinking, William yanked the blade free from the grasp of the invader and impaled it through its chest.

Though the juggernaut had decent armor, the strength behind the blade caused it to pierce the plate like a hot knife through butter, and soon the juggernaut felt its life draining away as a fountain of blood sprayed past the hilt of his own sword.

Seeing this happen, the other golden juggernauts grew enraged and surrounded William and leaving Immortal unattended.

SWING!

A juggernaut swung his mighty blade towards William's back, looking to cleave him in two diagonally, but before the blade could connect, he suddenly flew backwards faster than the sword wielder could react and spun in place into a kick that connected with the juggernaut's neck.

CRACK!

The juggernaut's neck snapped before the alien's body went flying into a nearby building, reducing it into rubble.

BOOM!

Before the sword could fall to the ground, William spun in place and grabbed it before completing the spin while swinging the sword diagonally.

SHING!

The blade connected with another, sending sparks flying around him, and a snarling golden juggernaut was seen struggling to regain control of his blade, but before he could maneuver the weapon, William suddenly shot forward and impaled the juggernaut before slamming it into the ground.

RUMBLE!

While William and the group of juggernauts fought, back where the conflict originated, Immortal could be seen struggling to remove the weapons from within his body.

"Times like this, I miss wearing armor!" He sighed thinking about it, "It is just so damned expensive!"

His thoughts ended as he pulled the final sword from his guts, blood poured like a river before his body's healing effect took over, and he returned to his peak state.

He rose to his feet and was about to move to join William when something changed, and the hairs on Immortal's neck stood up.

Thinking fast, Immortal dodged to the left just as a monstrous beam of energy shot past him.

WHOOOOSH!

Before Immortal could react, the beam of energy had reached its target and suddenly—

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The beam exploded upon striking William in his abdomen and erupted in an explosion the likes of which should only belong to a tactical nuke, the force of which overpowered Immortal and made him fly backwards against his will.

BOOM!

He struck a tree and cleaved it in half before continuing to the end of the block and slamming into a wall.

The back of the immortal's head exploded, causing brain matter and blood to paint the wall behind him.

In the center of impact, William's suit had turned to ash, and his flesh was being scorched in fires even greater than Rex was capable of.

"It hurts... so much, make it stop!" His thoughts were all over the place, and it was all he could do to let out a soundless cry before he lost the ability to hold himself upright.

His muscles, tendons, veins, and nerves were burned away, revealing a strange, dark skeleton with small golden veins interlaced between in a hypnotic pattern.

All fell to the ground in a blaze before the fires eventually died down.

The dozens of juggernauts surrounding William had been evaporated along with most of the surrounding buildings. It was lucky for the planet that this attack seemed focused on one spot rather than causing widespread chaos.

War Woman, Eve, Kate, and the other heroes all looked on in horror as a massive gun barrel was seen moving out of the portal before a massive Flaxan in an opulent and gaudy armor stepped out of the portal and tossed the now useless single-shot weapon to the side.

A wicked grin appeared on the king of the Flaxan's face as he lifted a sword half as big as a bus and pointed forward.

STEP!

STEP!

STEP!

STEP!

STEP!

Black armored juggernauts that are somehow larger than their golden cousins, while retaining a vast superiority in maneuverability, stepped out of the portal and formed ranks next to and behind their king, forming an intimidating wall of alien might.

Sinister laughter then emanated from the king's lips that somehow echoed into the battlefield and garnered the attention of all involved.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

The laughter sent chills down the spines of the remaining defenders and caused elation in the invading forces, who all kneeled in response to their king's presence.

Using a translator built into his suit, the king soon spoke, "Behold, humans, the end to all you have ever known stands before you. Feel honored as you die, basking in my royal presence!"

He pointed his massive sword forward, and in response, the king's guard behind him all pounded their weapons on their chests and stood to their feet, glaring at the remaining human defenders and the heroes with killing intent written on their faces as clear as day.

Suddenly, they jumped into action, half leaping towards Immortal, the other half lunging towards War Woman and her group, and the rest assaulting Eve and the people she was defending.

The king stands there with his sword planted in the asphalt, watching the defenders' pointless struggle with a look of incredulity and disdain.

However, the king's eyes twitched when he saw Immortal shove his arm into the throat of an elite juggernaut and promptly rip out whatever he could grab onto.

"Gross!"

Immortal threw the slimy flesh to the ground and stomped on it before grabbing the weapon that the now-dead black juggernaut dropped and using it to block another blow from behind.

CLANG!

The blow caused Immortal to slide backward, but halting his momentum with his flight power, he once again lunged at his opponent and began to spin, gathering an immense amount of force and momentum that even caused the juggernaut to take a defensive posture.

Immortal finished spinning his blade and chopped downward with such speed that observers could only catch his afterimage before—

SHATTER!

The blade in the juggernaut's hand, as well as the one in Immortal's hand, shattered explosively, sending shards of superheated metal shooting in every direction.

Immortal was about to strike with his elbow when a blade impaled him from behind.

He looked down and saw one of the black juggernauts blades sticking out through his chest, he spat out a mouthful of blood as the alien invade lifted him into the air before with a grin that made it clear the black juggernaut was enjoying the look of pain on Immortal's face and with a swift yank upward the blade carved upward and cut its way free of Immortal's body from his neck.

SPRRT!

A massive jet of steaming hot blood shot out of the Immortal as he fell to the ground seemingly lifeless, but before they could confirm.

RUMBLE!

With the sound of lightning echoing behind her, Santana moved so fast that the black juggernauts appeared to be standing still, so taking the chance, she moved closer and, with a look of struggle on her face, began dragging the seemingly frozen in time corpse of Immortal to a safer place until he recovered.

"I am unable to penetrate the armor on these black juggernauts; it is all I can do to keep them from being chopped into pieces!" She looked over to the crater where William was previously standing and had a look of guild on her face, "I wish I could have saved him, but it was just so damned hot!"

As she thought this, she was forced to dodge a laser that, due to its nature, moved at vast speeds comparable to her own, and she had to weave between these beams in a sight that would go unseen by anyone who could not slow down the recordings of today's events.

She soon finished evading the beams and continued her speedy march through the battlefield, making sure to grab those in the way of danger, saving their side many potential casualties.

Suddenly—

CRACK.

A faint sound echoed from the heart of the crater. It was subtle… almost insignificant. But to those who could hear it, their eyes widened.

Something moved.

The flames parted like a curtain in a play as a skeletal figure began to slowly assemble and reform, the dark bones becoming a shade darker, and the hypnotic golden patterns began burning with strange fires that caused the surrounding flames around him to back away as if they were bowing to a superior existence.

New nerves began to grow along with muscles and veins, which interlaced and interconnected with each other in a way that defied common knowledge, and soon muscle groups began to appear.

Each muscle group was incredibly tough; the individual strands were more comparable to titanium than mere flesh, but it was when the organs grew back that truly caught everyone's attention.

Because when his lungs grew back, William let out a scream of pain that would haunt a ghost.

Eve and Kate had tears in their eyes as they could practically feel the pain he was emanating from his very being, while Rex, Hunk, and the newly recovered Immortal could all feel an underlying emotion hidden under the pain.

Rage, unadulterated and animalistic rage.

The last organ to finish growing was the brain, and the eyes came shortly after; however, unlike before, his originally green eyes burned with intense orange, otherworldly flames

Skin soon regrew, flawless and tight, with not a single scar or growth scar.

He raised his head to the sky as his dark hair regrew longer than before, and he let out a primal roar that only someone like Immortal has experienced before.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

William's mouth extended past the point of being natural, and the blaze in the depths of his eyes intensified.

FLSH!

He disappeared from his position and reappeared in front of a black juggernaut with a sadistic and demonic grin on his face before he swung upward with his hand straight like a blade.

SHNG!

Before the juggernaut could react to the blow, William casually walked over and took the blade from the limp hand of the invader before it could fall on its own, and feeling satisfied with its weight and balance.

He had already moved on to his next target when the juggernaut he was previously attacking was suddenly severed in half from his hip to his shoulder.

William made a beeline for the juggernaut impaling Immortal, some primal protective urge forcing his hand even in his berserk state to protect this man.

The black juggernaut who had impaled the Immortal attempted to remove his blade, but on the other side Immortal, with blood oozing from his mouth and the wound on his chest, was holding the blade steady in place, preventing the juggernaut from defending by the time William's blade connected.

BOOOM

The blade struck from the alien's shoulder, but with a slight deviation of the blade, it no longer bisected the juggernaut and merely crushed him into the ground, the blade in its hand being freed by the force of the impact spun in the air as the blood caking its surface formed a bloody curtain in the air.

CLASP!

William grabbed the blade from the air and swung it with a great amount of strength, causing the blood on its surface to spray out in a fan shape.

The Flaxan king, standing in front of the portal, breathed heavily as he witnessed the carnage of his most superior fighting force, and grew restless.

He had always sought to test himself against a worthy foe, and it appeared he had found his opponent.

CRACK!

He pulled the sword from the asphalt, causing spiderweb cracks to split in all directions before he hefted the massive blade onto his armored shoulder.

"This will be so much fun!" He could not help but think as the veins in his legs bulged and he leaped into the air.

"HAAAAAAAAA!"

The Flaxan king leaped towards William as he was carving through a black juggernaut like tofu and swung his mighty blade downward.

William, sensing the danger, kicked Immortal out of the way and leaped backwards, but he was a little too late as the tip of the king's sword carved a deep wound in William's chest.
