The officer's eyes locked onto hers, sharp and unwavering. "I'm not asking for lies. Since you claim to be innocent, all you need to do is tell me everything that happened. Or do you not want to prove your innocence and seek justice for the victim?"
Justice? The word sounded convincing yet surreal. Selina's eyes flickered downward, the weight of what 'justice' would mean for her father and for Zane pressing hard against her chest.
She nearly let out a bitter laugh, wondering if life was toying with her, trapping her in an impossible web. Attempting to dodge conflicts, she only found herself caught in a dire situation.
The officer noticed her dazed gaze and trembling hands on the table. "Don't be afraid. I won't let anyone harm you. I'll make sure you're safe." His voice softened slightly.
Then, after a brief pause, his tone sharpened again. "Did anyone threaten you? The ones who harmed Mr. Hudson?"
Selina shook her head. "No. They didn't threaten me."
