"...Could Kevin spare Damon one more time? Then let Damon take Katherine and have them leave Mystic Falls," Stefan pleaded with Kevin.
"We'll see if I even run into Damon when the time comes," Kevin replied, clearly unwilling to just let Damon off the hook. Honestly, since coming to this world, the person Kevin detested most was Damon; how could he possibly let him go because of Stefan's insubstantial words?
"Kevin, we all know Damon was taken by you. Just let him go one more time," Elena added from the side.
"And you're all so sure Damon was taken by me? But Damon has been missing for so long now, what makes you think he's even still alive?" Kevin glanced at Bonnie and Anna. Those two knew he had taken Damon, but Bonnie was the only one who knew Kevin planned to desiccate him. So, although Kevin was reluctant to admit it, the suspicion that she was the informant was indeed the highest.
Anna shook her head at Kevin, while Bonnie pursed her lips and said nothing. Kevin roughly understood; Bonnie had probably let it slip. He just didn't know if it was because Bonnie felt desiccating Damon for a lifetime was too cruel, or if Elena and the others had sensed something and pressured it out of her.
"When we were looking for Damon earlier, someone said you took him. As for why we say Damon isn't dead, it's because if you had killed Damon, you wouldn't have needed to hide it," Elena said, glancing subtly at Bonnie.
"So? In what capacity are you saying this to me? As Sarah's friend? As Tanner's student? Or as the friend of Vicki, your ex-boyfriend's sister? Oh, no, wait, it must be as Damon's sister-in-law, right?" Kevin directly mocked Elena, even putting on an expression of sudden realization when he mentioned Damon's sister-in-law.
"Hey, Kevin! How can you say that to Elena?" Caroline, however, couldn't stand to hear Kevin speak ill of Elena.
"Was I wrong?" Kevin retorted directly. It was only then that Kevin understood why Elena and Stefan had brought Caroline here today. It was really all for Damon, not hesitating to drag Caroline into this mess.
Unfortunately for them, they had miscalculated. If it were the old Kevin, he might have restrained himself somewhat because of Caroline. But ever since Caroline had moved on to a new partner at lightning speed, Kevin had already decided to end that relationship. What's more, Kevin was now determined to be a "scumbag." So, while Kevin might still have some special feelings for Caroline, it wasn't to the extent that he would brainlessly compromise for her.
"Kevin, you..." Caroline didn't know what to say.
"What about me? Caroline, do you know how many times Damon escaped from my grasp by using you as a threat against me? And Stefan, when Damon was threatening me, you just stood by and watched. When I wanted to kill Damon, you guarded him with your life, willing to die to let him escape! If I wasn't afraid of him running off and seeking revenge on me, could he even threaten me? So, for all the people Damon has killed, you, Stefan, bear at least half the responsibility! It's a wonder I haven't killed you already! How dare you act up in front of me like this?" Kevin angrily unleashed everything.
"And Bonnie," Kevin continued, turning to her after seeing everyone else rendered speechless, "don't think that me desiccating Damon is a cruel thing. Stefan, Damon's own brother, has done it to him once before. Of course, our starting points are different: he couldn't bear to kill him; I purely feel Damon doesn't deserve to die so easily."
"Alright, you all probably don't have any other objections, right? If not, then let's settle it like this for now. As for other matters, I don't care. Once you find the spellbook and set a date, just call me then. I'll be leaving first," Kevin said. He felt things were more or less decided, mainly because they didn't have much say in the matter, especially Anna. He gave Bonnie a look and then announced his departure.
"Kevin, let me go with you for a bit. I've just awakened my powers; I need to go to my Grams' place and ask her for guidance," Bonnie said, catching Kevin's signal and suggesting they leave together.
"Alright then, let's go," Kevin nodded and led the way out.
"Bonnie, I'm actually going to your Grams' place too. To be honest, I'm not entirely at ease and want to have a Plan B," Kevin said after Bonnie got in the car.
"What Plan B?" Bonnie asked, puzzled.
"I plan to ask your Grams if it's possible to only partially break the seal, so that vampires can get in but can't get out. When the time comes, I'll go in. If Anna doesn't double-cross us, I'll agree to let her mother out. If Anna does betray us, I'll just take the opportunity to kill all the vampires inside. After all, I'm not afraid of their numbers; I'm only afraid of them escaping," Kevin explained.
"And that place, with its seal, can be considered a very good prison. When the time comes, I'll lock Damon directly in there. If any vampires need to be punished in the future, they can also be imprisoned there," Kevin didn't hide his thoughts.
"Kevin, aren't you angry that I told Elena and the others about Damon?" Bonnie asked, looking at Kevin as he explained himself.
"That's perfectly normal. After all, Elena is your best friend. Leaving aside whether you told her yourself or if Elena questioned it out of you... even if you voluntarily told Elena that Damon was in my hands, you didn't tell them the location of the cabin. Otherwise, if they knew we had agreed to discuss things here, they probably would have gone to the cabin to rescue him first," Kevin said with a sense of relief.
"Thank you, Kevin," Bonnie said. She had originally thought Kevin would be very angry, especially since he had trusted her enough to tell her everything.
"It's nothing," Kevin smiled at Bonnie.
"Wait, Kevin, this isn't the way to my Grams' house. This road goes to my house," Bonnie said, suddenly realizing they were going the wrong way as she looked out the window.
"My bad, my brain! I don't even know where your Grams lives," Kevin said, slapping his head as he remembered he'd forgotten to ask.
"Hahaha! I'll give you directions then. First, turn around," Bonnie said with a laugh.
Kevin and Bonnie soon arrived at Bonnie's grandmother's house; it wasn't far. They got out of the car, and Kevin followed Bonnie into her Grams' home.
"Grams, do you think there's a way to do it like this?" Bonnie asked after explaining the whole situation to her grandmother.
"It's hard to say; I haven't seen the spellbook yet. But I feel it might not be possible. When Emily cast the spell, she drew power from the comet. Now that the crystal amulet is destroyed, just relying on us, it will likely be difficult to even break the seal, let alone reseal it afterwards. However, if you're just talking about letting them in but not out, that should be possible," Bonnie's grandmother said thoughtfully, unable to be certain.
"That makes things easier then. When we get the spellbook, you can take a look first and see if it's feasible. If you feel it can't be unsealed, then just open the seal for entry. Let Anna and me go in first. If Anna doesn't betray me, I'll spare her and her mother's lives, and I can free them later when there's an opportunity. If Anna deceives me, then I'll just take the opportunity to clear out all the vampires inside, and then there'll be no need to break the seal at all," Kevin suggested to Bonnie's grandmother.
"That works too. This way, at least it guarantees our human safety," Bonnie's grandmother readily agreed to Kevin's plan.
