Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Fever

Zerra had a bad feeling about this. She exited her room and went to Nyra's. An ominous premonition already looming over the moment she took a step forward.

Grandma wouldn't have called her if it wasn't something that didn't involve her.

The moment she stepped into the room, a look of understanding flashed in her eyes. Her head throbbed, and she can already guess the next plot.

"What did you do to Ira?" Grandma had an unpleasant look on her face. Her eyes narrowed in disapproval.

On the bed, Nyra's fair skin had turned slightly red because of fever. Her teeth chattered slightly, and she was unconscious. Once a while, she would furrow her brows and pursed her lips due to discomfort.

"I didn't do anything, Grandma," Zerra explained, speechless.

"Then why is Ira also contracting a fever after she became so close to you?" Her eyes were full of scrutiny, sharp.

"Maybe she went out and someone infected her…" Zerra answered.

Grandma snorted and shifted her attention to Nyra on the bed, apparently still unconvinced by her words. She put the cloth on Nyra's forehead again after she squeezed out the water, eyes full of worry.

Zerra, on the other hand, wasn't that worried. There has been news that people have been suffering from fever lately because of the weather. However, the truth was… it was the start of the ability awakening.

When Nyra woke up again, she would no longer be an ordinary person, but a protagonist with superpower.

"Don't stand too close." Grandma waved her hand in disapproval.

Zerra sighed in her heart and took a few steps back. Her eyes landed on the sight outside the window, narrowing.

Although it was just an hour passed from noon, the sky had already begun to darken. She also heard the faint cracking of thunders and sudden drop of temperatures.

It was the day when natural disasters began to strike everywhere. In the Moon Cloud City, there was a sudden tremendous storm that was even out of the meteorologists' prediction.

"You go find the doctor that checked you some days ago. Let her take a look at your sister's condition," Grandma finally said.

Maybe Nyra also hadn't expected that she would awaken her power too soon and become unconscious. They hadn't prepared supplies at home yet.

"What are you waiting for? Go quick!" Grandma had an expression of hating iron for not being a steel when she looked at Zerra, who still hadn't budged on her spot in the slightest. She shook her head with an obviously incensed face.

"Alright. I will go." Nyra bit her lip and strode out of the room. She had been taking a look at the phone earlier and the signal wasn't working. Soon, they also might be out of power.

Since she couldn't contact the doctor, she had to visit the person in her clinic. The walk was quite long. By the time she reached the place, she was panting in exhaustion. It had taken her an hour and without any accessible public transport since the signal went down.

"Doctor Ashborn, can you check on my sister too? She got sick just like me. I think… she might have gotten infected because of me." As soon as she adjusted her breathing, she went inside and spoke to the doctor in front of her.

"Oh, it's you, Miss Zerra…"

After Doctor Ashborn agreed to visit Grandma's house, she joined in riding her car. However, she asked her to drop her off at the supermarket nearby.

"It looks like it's going to be a heavy rain or storm soon, so I need to buy supplies. Sorry for the inconvenience, Doctor Ashborn. However, Grandma is currently at home." She explained.

Doctor Ashborn looked like a strict person, but she appeared to be pretty easy going and she didn't mind her. After dropping Zerra at the supermarket near Grandma's house, she pulled her car and headed to her destination.

The sky was getting more and more dark, like it was soon going to turn into night time. Along the way, people had worried looks on their faces, and they hurried home. Once a while, some would check their phones and then frown in distress.

The supermarket was nearly closed, and fortunately, Zerra was on time. She bought anything she could get in five minutes and waited in line to pay at the cashier. She didn't even take the change for her money and dashed home.

The sky was really dark at this moment. She nearly stumbled upon some people a few times. Now, the power also went out.

"Ouch," she hissed, feeling herself falling on someone. In an instant, she pulled herself up and apologized, "I am sorry, I didn't see—"

The next words were stuck in her throat. A pair of pained eyes gazed up at her, illuminated by the sudden crackling lightning in the sky.

On top of that, the person was now clutching her foot. From his mouth, some extreme hoarse voice sounded, "… help… me…"

His voice came out choked, like it had taken a great effort for him to say that. In the middle of such a dark sky, the scene was akin to an episode of a horror movie.

Zerra recognized his state in an instant. A zombie transformation. She bit her lips, trying to pull her foot out of his grasp. However, his hands were like a tight rope binding her.

"Let go of me!" She hissed at him.

The person still didn't budge, only occasionally letting out a pained growl. His voice was soon drowned out by the loud thunders. Drizzle began to fall, and soon it rained more heavily with strong winds.

Zerra knew that not long, it would be stormy. Even now, she already felt cold all over. No doubt that if this continued, she would get a fever again!

"Ashborn… Eryx…" he started again, gasping. "My sister… Doctor… Ashborn."

Zerra's face twitched. What a coincidence! She met yet another Nyra's future admirer. Now it clicked why he looked somewhat familiar.

"Your name is Eryx Ashborn?" She asked. This man must have seen her coming out of Doctor Ashborn's car, right? She hadn't expected that the two of them were actually related.

Now, the matter has become a bit more complicated.
