Just like every part of the town the dark portals came both unexpected and in waves that couldn't be copperheaded.
Still this was the place where the overwhelming majority of stars were gathered so the summoner split its forces so the adventures here would have the most amount of trouble.
And it worked with so many people it was impossible to protect all of them so the monsters had an infinite amount of food so they tried again and again until the emotions of the defenders cracked.
When despair and fear grew unbearable and the adventures started making mistakes, that's when everything turned from bad to worse.
The monsters evolved and by evolving they were naturally less people defending. A dark cycle of death began and each second that passed things looked grimmer and grimmer.
Eventually people stopped trying to save everyone and runned to save their hides the monsters were becoming more potent and grew stronger at an unforgiving rate.
In the mall things looked better since they were walls to protect the humans. And even though the monsters could pass through them when they did they became unbelievably slow. On the market things looked strangely empty, unless you count the dead bodies of course, since by the nature of how markets work the adventures weren't equally split and since the market span at least 500 meters running to the entire market was impossible.
The few who survived runned to town and in their houses weirdly enough that's were the least casualties happened.
That was because of how the summoner choose the portals to appear. The more stars the more portals, the strongest the stars the stronger the monster. So in a lone building it wasn't uncommon for a 1v1 to happen and because of that it was so much less likely for unpredictable stuff to happen. Since the monsters barely knew what they were doing it wasn't hard to win the 1v1 after all it was literally impossible for them to get summoned to someone without powers.
Witch bringed the biggest problem, most people were outside and happily drinking coffee, shopping or working. And where do most people work?
Yes on the market and town square. To put it simply the death toll was so high that Alicia from a buzzing town became a medium sized village.
And the worst part the attack wasn't even done, that's how much the monsters killed as of now on the market and mall alone not counting the schools and the guild and the town.
And the surviving monsters were still here not knowing where to go they were at least one thousand and the smallest among them was 30 cm and the biggest 1,55 pretty much human sized.
In fact the mentioned monster was about to get through an evolution.
All 5 of them after reaching a certain height could evolve into summoners. And yes the same summoners that they came for. Each one specialised in the form it came for.
For example the diseased summoner was a monstrous hyena with tentacles once upon a time. Through time and cunning it became a summoner and climbed up its social ladder becoming the strongest one of its kind.
But it wasn't even an opponent as far as the other 4 summoner type of shadowy were concerned. The black hyena was considered the weakest in their social hierarchy then came the stickman then the rat then the star and the strongest and usually the leader the ball.
Just because the summoned stickman it produced were weak it didn't mean they were, in fact the monster who was about to evolve was a stickman. It just needed one more kill one more and the same thing would happen again. And the worst part is the town didn't knew about it thinking they were done. For the time they were right and no more monsters could be summoned but one mistake and the town would be filled to the brim with shadowy monsters again.
As for the mall a siege in every store inside the building was happening. The humans tried their best to survive but it was hopeless the monsters might as well be infinite and since they split up to 5 or 10 people most not even combat ready defending the siege was an uphill battle. The only saving grace was the fact the attackers too learned how to fight middle combat.
Still the monsters couldn't get tired but the humans certainly passed their limits. They fought for 5 hours but no help came. Some stores became erie silent. Then 2 more hours passed and by now only the most resilient and smart humans defended their small holes. Then 4 more hours passed and even them started to fall. It truly looked hopeless the last 20 people on the mall defended against 160 plus monsters and even if they killed them more would come.
When even them started to pass out due to overextension, a big sphere of light covered them.
Alosious with Nixtel together with 20 of the most elite members of the guild came at the very last second.
The monsters tried to get rid of them but they weren't tired in fact they brimmed with energy and so every monster that approached them got eviscerated.
Alosious approached the last humans of the mall and healed each and every one. Still they didn't get up he could heal their wounds but not their souls. He expected as much so he ordered his entourage to leave. Their mission here was done now their objective was to conquer back their town whatever the cost.
