Kayn was now back on top of the ice platform that he created on the fortress, waiting patiently for the army to run in a rage and charging blindly towards the fortress.
"There were some dead demons from my attacks, but I couldn't get them… Such a waste.
But it was quite impossible with that annoying demon on my back, he could outrun me whenever he wanted.
I will just focus on the siege battle here to try and harvest as much soul as possible."
Upon returning to the fortress, Kayn had widened his ice field and scattered more rigid ice spears in the direction where the wind demon army would come.
"But I still have to somehow deal with the wind demon's speed… Not that any solution comes to mind…"
The only way to deal with the wind demon was to take away his speed, and the ice affinity would be perfect for that.
But Kayn didn't know how he could make his icy mana reach the wind demon.
His frozen wind was easily blown away by the wind demon's stronger wind. And it would also be easy for the wind demon to dodge Kayn's attacks with his speed.
'Well, I can think of several measures for that… I will just have to make the preparations properly.'
It didn't take long for the wind demon's army to finally arrive at the fortress.
Although the Rocky Mountain territory was filled with mountains, the area that Kayn was currently in was on the base of one of the outermost mountains.
And there weren't any forest areas where an army would find it harder to march through.
The wind demon and his army arrived while Kayn was finalizing his plan to deal with the wind demon's annoying agility, 'It wasn't perfect yet, but I should find moments where it will still be possible to do it.'
Kayn then walked towards the edge of the platform that he had created, enabling him to see everything more clearly.
The wind demon then finally saw what his scouts meant when they reported, "The fortress had been turned to a semi-ice region."
The fortress, one that should look similar to his own fortress, was completely changed.
There were platforms and pillars made out of ice jutting out of the parts of the fortress here and there.
And not only that, the grounds all around the fortress have been frozen by ice magic.
A thin layer of ice covered the ground's surface, and ice spears littered the ground everywhere.
To figure out what the ice demon was planning, the wind demon sent out 10 demons, 5 of them flew while the other 5 ran on the ground.
The 10 of them obeyed the wind demon's command without fail as they charged towards the icy fields.
The flying demon went past the icy field with ease, the only problem they were having was the ice bullets that Kayn sent.
On the other hand, the ground demons find it much harder to do so.
The second their feet touched the icy field, they began to find it hard to walk without stabbing their claws firmly on the ground.
For the two demons who didn't have claws, they were left helpless as they were forced to crawl and slide on all four legs, just so that they could move properly at all.
But soon, they became an example for the others as to what would happen if they were unable to move properly on the icy fields.
The two crawling demons saw the ice bullets coming towards them, but they couldn't do anything.
They tried to move away, crawling faster, but the ice bullets were by no means slow.
Their bodies were soon filled with bullet holes as they froze and became rigid, sliding uncontrollably on the ice, hitting the ice spears here and there and freezing themselves even more.
"The icy spears may not cut any demons, but they kept oozing a freezing aura, and it could freeze anyone if they got too close to the spears.
And with the icy field, it made it harder to even move properly, dodging dozens of ice spears…"
Kayn had taken down 3 flying demons using his frozen wind and more ice bullets, while only 1 of the demons on the ground had remained.
The wind demon then decided.
"Winged demons, follow me! And for those of you who don't have wings. What you will do is…"
Kayn looked at the wind demon, just observing and staying still when he cast his frozen wind and killed the flying demons coming his way.
He then flew himself and killed the remaining demon.
He took the souls of the 10 demons that had been kindly given to him, probably to check the status quo of the battlefield before the wind demon jumped in himself.
'I guess it's really not camaraderie that made the wind demon care for his subordinates, it is the fighting power that he needed. He might have guessed that his enemy wasn't a weak one.
What a clever demon.'
As Kayn finished collecting the tenth soul and bringing his strength and mana pool even stronger, the wind demon made his move.
Just like before, the demons with wings on their backs followed after the winged demon as they all flew towards Kayn.
But the wind demon didn't outrun them this time, he just kept his pace slower so that he would be going together with the other demons.
Knowing a frozen wind would be useless in this situation, Kayn cast ice bullets instead.
Kayn shot the ice bullets in slightly different directions, making sure they didn't all converge into the same point.
Just as he guessed, the wind demon could also cast his wind shield easily while he was in the air.
His ice barrier could also do the same, as it was a layer of mana manifesting physically.
But the earth demon couldn't do that, as they summoned the earth from the ground if they wanted to erect a barrier of earth.
Additionally, it differed from the ice magic's shield, which was less focused on pure defense but also capable of freezing anything it touched. The wind shield, on the other hand, focused on redirection.
Just like before, the ice bullets were thrown downward from the wind barrier, hitting nothing but the already frozen ice fields below.
Fortunately, the wind shield wasn't something that could encompass tens of demons scattered in the air.
The further the bullets went from the center of the barrier, which was the wind demon, the weaker the redirection force was.
The bullets that were aimed several meters away from the wind demon were still able to hit the demons behind them despite changing their direction slightly.
And the bullets that were aimed far from the wind demon didn't even shift an inch and hit their targets successfully.
Kayn couldn't even scratch the wind demon with this attack, but he wasn't discouraged.
'At least now I know for sure that the wind shield really acts like a real wind, not some magical wind that could push things away no matter how weak the wind current was.'
Kayn then changed his ice bullet spell to something else that was proven to be able to destroy a thick wall of earth in just one hit.
