Chapter 28 - Siege Of The Pseudo Ice Domain (2)

"Frost Barrier: Burst"

The runes flashed and disappeared as the spell manifested into the world.

The demons who surrounded and attacked Kayn from all sides were left confused about what to do as they were already committed to their attacks.

They all could feel the intense mana gathering from the ice demon in front of them, but none of them could do anything as they were already past the point where they could cancel their attacks.

The demons who had cast a spell from afar were saved from receiving the full brunt of the attack, but the demons who decided to charge in weren't as lucky.

The moment the frost barrier exploded, releasing all the ice elemental mana that it had gathered, all the demons who had charged in stopped in their place.

Not only the demons, but even the spells that were mid-flight were also frozen in place as the burst of ice wave passed through them.

Not a single one of the demons was spared as the frost mana invaded their bodies in an instant.

A thin layer of ice coated their skin as they were robbed of their ability to move.

Some of them were still alive, but not for long.

Without bothering to move his own body, Kayn just cast ice bullets, crumbling the brittle, frozen bodies with only a single bullet spell.

Soon, all the demons who dared to dash forward and tried to attack Kayn had become a lifeless, broken, ice sculpture.

Things were much better for the demons who attacked from behind using their magic.

The frost mana wave still reached them, but the strength had dwindled tremendously, and it couldn't freeze the demons instantly.

But still, most of them were still slowed tremendously beside the wind demo,n who managed to cast a wind shield at the very last second.

And Kayn didn't have any plans to waste this chance.

Kayn quickly identified which ones of the demons were still able to move freely and cast,

"Ice Spike Prison."

He also sent one to the wind demon, just to make the wind demon fly away and dodge the incoming spells.

With the wind demon away for a few seconds, Kayn resumed casting ice spike prison to the demons who still had strength left in their bodies.

Some of them had quickly realized what had happened, and they quickly flapped their wings to fly away.

But a lot of them weren't as lucky.

By the time Kayn had bound as many demons as possible, there were only 11 remaining demons, including the wind demon that was in any condition to fight.

The others were either dead, bound by the spikes, or had received too much ice mana to even move their bodies properly.

The wind demon tried to prevent Kayn from finishing off the weakened and bound demons, but Kayn didn't stop casting ice spears at the wind demon.

The wind demon was forced to either dodge or cast a wind barrier of his own.

With Kayn four hands, he still had two remaining hands to use to finish off the incapacitated demons, and he quickly did so.

The other demons, the 10 remaining ones that could still fight, didn't even try to save their companions, as they didn't have any way to deal with Kayn's magic bullets.

All of them were capable of casting a magic shield, which they had tried to use to defend their comrade, but they soon learned that when they tried doing that, the ice bullets would be coming their way instead.

The demons who valued their own lives above all else soon learned that if they didn't bother the ice demon, they wouldn't be killed immediately.

The wind demon was left helpless, as from the tens of demons he had brought, there were only 10 left.

And right now, their morale was lower than ever as they failed to even put a scratch on the ice demon's skin.

But the wind demon didn't give up yet.

"All of you, stand behind me, I will protect you!"

With his command, the demons then began lining up behind the wind demon, spreading slightly to the left and right, but not too much so that they wouldn't be threatened by the ice bullets.

"Begin attack! Make sure the ice demon's attention is on us!"

The wind demon then sent a wave of wind mana back towards the wingless demons, as a sign that they would finally join the fight.

Although he saw the winged demons he brought with him halve with ease, the wind demon didn't give up yet.

The reason for that was that there were still dozens of other demons waiting on the other side of the icy fields.

They couldn't pass through the icy fields alive with Kayn bombarding them with spells.

But now that he was literally right in front of Kayn, the wind demon would use himself and the other winged demon to put constant pressure on Kayn so that he wouldn't be able to harass the ground demons when they made their way into the icy fields.

'As long as I prevent him from casting that spell again, then even he would be outnumbered by dozens of demons attacking at the same time.'

That was the wind demon's plan as he and the other winged demon began bombarding their spells towards the ice demon.

For the first time in a while, the ice demon finally moved from his spot as he was forced to dodge against the bombardment of spells thrown towards him.

The ice demon couldn't put up a wind barrier like the wind demon. He wouldn't be able to redirect the numerous spells that were thrown at him.

The wind demon knew that as he had fought an ice demon before. Their barriers weren't as strong as long as one didn't attack the barrier with their own body.

And when he saw the ice barrier breaking after tanking three spells, the wind demon knew that he was correct.

It was the correct decision to force his way towards the ice demon and fight the ice demon from close range.

'The second the demons from the ground unit who specialize in close range combat arrive, the fight will be decided. We will win.'

The ice demon then began adopting the philosophy, "Offense is the best defense" as he cast some sort of strengthening spell on his body, enabling his body to move faster.

With the extra speed, the ice demon dodged the attacks from the demons instead of defending as he sent out attacks of his own.

With the ice demon moving around everywhere, it was hard for him to spam spells like before.

And when the attacks were sent out, the wind demon used his barrier to redirect the smaller spells, and used wind domain spell to enable his troops to move away faster.

They also kept their distance so that it wouldn't be impossible to dodge the attacks of the ice demon.

But still, the 10 demons were already affected by the burst of ice mana from before and they still couldn't shake off the cold.

More and more of them fell to the ice demon's attacks even with the wind demon's help.

However, the wind demon still kept his hopes up.

The ground unit was already halfway towards reaching them.

All of them had entered the icy fields as they slowly made their way forward.

Even the front half of the army was only a few meters away from reaching the fortress.

But their progress wasn't necessarily fast as they still needed to avoid the ice spears that were literally spread out all around them.

They couldn't even move straight forward as there were ice spears whenever they went.

'Just a little bit more, and we will win this!' The wind demon steeled himself even after seeing another one of the few remaining winged demons fall from being pierced by an ice spear.
