As the first ground demon made it to the entrance of the fortress, the wind demon finally shouted with vigor, "The ground unit has arrived! We will win! Keep pushing through.
The wind demon looked at the ice demon to see his expression. He expected the ice demon to be panicked and worried now that he would be outnumbered and forced to fight in close range, which was not his strong suit.
But the ice demon's expression remained calm. He even looked gleeful after he heard the ice demon's shout.
The wind demon began to think that something was wrong.
'Does he plan to run away after the ground demons arrive? I won't let him!'
The wind demon then cast another wind domain. This time, he used more mana than before to make the winds blow stronger.
And instead of using it to boost the speed of himself and his troops' movements, the wind demon created a downdraft wind above their heads that would make it impossible for anyone to fly up.
'Now his wings wouldn't work. Anymore, he would be finished here and now.'
The ice demon seemed to have noticed the wind domain as he looked upward, sensing the massive amount of mana generating a strong gale that pushed everything back to the ground.
But the ice demon, still somehow, didn't show even an ounce of panic on his face, only annoyance.
The first few ground demons had entered the fortress, and they began finding their way towards the ice platform sitting on top of the fortress.
It would take some time, but there weren't any icy fields or ice spears left in the fortress, so it would only be a matter of time before the ground demons made their way upward.
The rest of the army was still advancing slowly, and the majority of the army was currently in the most ice spear dance area on the icy fields.
But the ice demon didn't seem to be the only one who had been tracking the movement of the ground army.
The ice demon also noticed the ground army was currently stuck between his ice spear and he smiled widely when he saw this.
"Finally, those guys were too slow." These were the first words the ice demon said all this time as he shook his head slowly.
The wind demon began to panic and looked at his surroundings to see what kind of unknown spell the ice demon had set up this time, but he didn't have much time to do that as he was forced to dodge the ice spears coming his way.
The moment the wind demon moved away from his spot and was unable to cast a spell in that moment, the ice demon cast another spell that the wind demon had never seen before.
"Ice Spears : Explosion."
Reading the runes when the spell manifested, the wind demon instantly turned his head backward, staring at the ice spears that were stabbed into the ground everywhere.
The majority of his troops were at the spot where there were most of the ice spears, and those ice spears began trembling as the ice demon finished casting his spell.
It didn't take long for the wind demon to realize what would happen next as he screamed at the top of his lungs, "NO!!!"
But his scream did nothing other than being drowned in the sound of the explosions that dozens of ice spears created.
Every single one of the ice spears that were stabbed on the ground in the direction from which the wind demon's army had come from, all the ones around the wingless demons, had exploded into pieces.
Not only were all the ice shards sharp and they easily stabbed themselves into the ground demons, but the wave of ice mana that they released upon the explosion was the main threat that felled the ground demons left and right.
Just like before, when the ice demon detonated his own shield of ice to freeze the winged demon, a familiar scene reappeared as the wave of mana from the detonated ice spears invaded the bodies of all the demons still stuck on the icy grounds.
There wasn't a way for them to defend as it happened suddenly, there's no way for them to run as it was even hard for them to walk, they all could do nothing as the wave of mana froze their body from head to toe.
The wind demon's army, the one that contained his hope to defeat the ice demon, all had been frozen into ice statues as the wind demon's hope crumbled right in front of his eyes.
'I still have the demons who had entered the fortress. There were fewer than 10 of them, but as long as they were able to force the ice demon into close-quarter combat, we still had a chance to-'
Before the wind demon could even finish his thoughts, he was left speechless once again as he saw the ice demon drawing a familiar rune.
"Frozen Wind."
The spell then manifested itself as it began gathering up all the icy mana that the spears released, sending them all towards the fortress.
The wind demon quickly thought of releasing his current wind domain that prevented the ice demon from flying, to send away the frozen wind. But he hesitated.
'If I released the spell that prevented him from flying, then he would be able to fly and collect all those souls from the ground demon…
But if I do nothing, then even the ones who made it in the fortress will…'
All his hesitation caused the wind demon to be too late to do anything as the frozen wind entered the fortress, and he could feel the frozen wind spreading all around the fortress, carrying a massive amount of icy mana with it.
Without even seeing it with his own eyes, the wind demon knew what had happened to the demons inside the fortress as the Frozen Wind swept them up.
Different from the demons that hid in the fortress before when Kayn was sieging the earth demon, the demons in the wind demon's army didn't have any thoughts of hiding and defending themselves.
They all walked in the hallways, in the open courtyard, trying to find a way to the top of the fortress and climb to the ice platform. Some of them had even begun climbing the walls using their sharp claws.
Without anything sheltering them from the frozen wind, not a single one of them was spared from being frozen by the wind.
Realizing this, almost all hopes were lost for the wind demon as he thought of running away right here and right now.
The wind demon would be punished by the lord of the region if he found out that the wind demon not only failed to kill someone who opposed him, but also lost a lot of troops in the process.
But at this point, the wind demon didn't even know if it was possible to win against the ice demon in the first place.
'Wait, there's still a way.'
The wind demon wasn't 100% sure of this as he wasn't the type to fight in close combat, but he still had his other demons with him. They could at least somehow do it if they were playing with the ice demon's weakness.
"This is now do or die! Force him to go into close combat! It is his weakness!"
