Cherreads

Chapter 26 - Just Us Tonight.

The resort was quiet by the time Lily and Aaron got back to their suite. The kind of quiet that settles over expensive places, where the walls are thick and everyone's off sipping champagne on their balconies or already asleep under layers of hotel-grade linen.

Lily kicked off her shoes at the door and dropped her bag on the chair. "My feet might sue me."

Aaron loosened his tie and flopped onto the edge of the bed. "Worth it, though. You looked like a movie star."

"Hope the pictures prove it. I'm not doing that makeup routine again for at least a month."

He reached over and grabbed one of the fancy water bottles from the nightstand. "So this is it. No more planning. No more seating charts. Just peace."

Lily collapsed next to him. "Until my mom texts me tomorrow asking about grandkids."

He smirked. "Tell her we're working on it."

Lily gave him a side-eye. "Aaron."

He held up both hands, grinning. "Hey, I'm just saying. We are on our honeymoon."

She groaned playfully and stood up, tugging at the zipper of her dress. "I'm getting in the shower. If you come in after me, don't make a big deal out of it."

Aaron watched her disappear into the bathroom with a smile tugging at his lips.

A few minutes later, he followed. No grand entrance. Just stepped in like he'd done it a hundred times before. She raised an eyebrow at him and kept washing her hair like it was no big deal.

They laughed more than anything. It wasn't smooth or dramatic. She slipped. He caught her. He sneezed because of the shampoo scent. But when their hands touched and the mood shifted, it didn't feel like something they had to figure out. It just... happened.

Later, wrapped in towels and sprawled across the bed, Lily reached over to pull the comforter halfway up and yawned.

"You think this place has breakfast in bed?"

"Probably, but you're not a breakfast person."

"I might be now," she mumbled, already half-asleep.

Aaron chuckled and nudged closer. "We'll find out in the morning."

They didn't stay up late talking. They didn't exchange deep confessions or long, meaningful stares. They were tired, happy, and full of quiet relief.

Married. Done.

Just them. And that was enough.
