Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 - The Weight of Power

Maxi rubbed his temples, trying to wrap his head around the absurdity of it all. Every earthly god, without hesitation, had blessed those two people simply because they had sung into the unknown. Unseen faith, spoken directly into the void, had been answered—not by one god, but by all of them. If those two had never existed, this entire power system wouldn't exist either.

"Lucky bastards," Maxi muttered under his breath. He both cursed and thanked them at the same time.

Tangen, recovering from his dramatic fall, dusted himself off and grinned. "Yeah, my dear student, that was just the beginning… and also the halfway point. We still have much to cover."

Maxi sighed, removing his glasses to clean them. "Let's continue," he said, his curiosity winning over his exhaustion.

Tangen extended his hand once more, conjuring small red stars as he continued the story. He explained how the rainbow light of the first blessings had shone so brightly that it could be seen even through the barriers of the earthly gods' domain. The King of Kings, upon witnessing it, sighed. With a mere flick of his finger, he summoned every god.

He did not summon them to scold or parade the earthly gods before all. Instead, he declared that from this point forward, the gods would decide the rest of the laws on their own. He announced his intention to enter a deep slumber, preserving his energy to maintain their realms, their domains, and the balance of future creations. Unless it was absolutely necessary, he was not to be disturbed.

With that, the King of Kings fell into his deep sleep.

The oldest gods, now left to oversee the new order, declared the need for balance. There had to be equal representation of good, evil, chaos, and neutrality. The Eldritch Gods immediately rose to take the mantle of chaos and evil, drawn to its raw and unpredictable nature. But the rest of the gods hesitated.

"Do you truly wish to bear this burden?" the oldest gods asked. "To be seen as the villains, the architects of destruction, the forces that every living thing fears?"

Every Eldritch God nodded in unison. And so, it was decided.

The oldest gods then turned to the others. The Outer Gods took on neutrality, their vast, incomprehensible minds uninterested in the petty struggles of morality. That left the Earthly Gods with the role of upholding goodness, though even they knew that purity could not exist without its opposite.

With balance established, the next concern was enforcement. The Eldritch Gods proposed a system—those who chose to ascend to them would become demons, rulers of a new hierarchy born within the 1000 Spiraling Hells.

Demons

High demons.

Royal demons.

Demonic lords.

Demon kings and queens.

Demonic empires.

With each level of power came a greater responsibility to their domain. To ascend, demons would collect the remnants of destroyed, blessed objects or repeatedly kill those who had been blessed and died and came to the one thousand Spiraling Hells. The more power they gathered, the closer they came to godhood.

The oldest gods found this fascinating and proposed the same structure for the others. The Earthly Gods created the angels. The Outer Gods, the Dreamers.

Tangen admitted that little was known about these beings. The angels were forged by the Earthly Gods, that much was clear. The Dreamers, however… no one knew the true nature of the Outer Gods' creations. Only that they existed somewhere, between sleep and reality.

Regardless, one thing was certain: demons, angels, and dreamers all had the potential to reach the power of the gods themselves. When they reached a certain point, they would be granted a godly title, one that reflected the abilities they had mastered both in thier current existence and the last one they hade before they died and entered the one thousand Spiraling Hells. And just like the gods, they would gain the ability to bless others—though only once they had ascended high enough.

Then came the Eldritch Gods' final decree, one that spread to every domain as a law as true as resolute as the king of kings laws:

Any being that lost itself to madness or was consumed by power would be transformed into something of an Eldritch God's choosing, becoming their plaything until death.

With that, balance was complete. Every domain had its rulers, its ascendants, and its enforcers.

Tangen then fell to the floor again—this time even more dramatically than before. He clutched his chest, staggered in a cartoonish spin, and let small red stars gently lower him like a fallen hero.

Maxi sighed, pushing his glasses up his nose. He smirked slightly, finally understanding the power system of this world.

"Now," he whispered, "life could get interesting."
