Before Rheo's brain could make sense of what had just appeared, another interface slipped into his mind.
[Quest Details: The Fiery-tooth Tribe is tired of their leader's tyrannical rule. They live every day in fear of oppression from the ruling family.]
[Quest Objective: Defeat the Rat Emperor to reinstate peace for the tribe members.]
[0/1 Rat Emperor slain]
[Quest Rewards: 10,000 XP, 2x Martial-type Tamer Tokens!]
What is the meaning of this?
Realizing the monster in front of him was preparing to launch a massive boulder, he dove to the side just in time.
BOOM!!!
A loud explosive sound boomed from outside the woods.
Rheo gnashed his teeth; if he had been a second late, he would have been flattened into a lump of meat just now!
"Raizen, snatch it up to the sky before it digs a tunnel!"
Rheo gave the bird a quick command.
Like a blur, a swift silvery figure swooped through the air.
Before the Rat Emperor could even blink to start digging for another boulder, the precise talons had grabbed it by the waist.
Swift as a bolt of judgment!
Raizen flew up with astounding speed! Reaching a thousand meters in the air, a deafening sonic boom erupted.
BOOM!!!
The monster bird surged forward with supreme velocity, the air itself shattering beneath its acceleration like glass smashed by a hammer of thunder.
Thunder falcon species were the fastest in flight among all monsters.
However, Rheo didn't know the bird could be as fast as this.
Although the Lightning Dive he witnessed was like lightning speed, this was just a normal flight.
He never knew the bird could break the barrier of sound in a normal flight.
Rheo's mind wandered to the interface. As he was thinking about this, a notification appeared in his mind.
[View Side Quest?]
So I just have to wish it and it would appear,
The youth tilted his head in puzzlement.
Okay, yes, the side quest
[Ding!]
The interface reappeared
[Quest Details: The Fiery-tooth Tribe is tired of their Rat Emperor's tyrannical rule. They live every day in fear of oppression from the ruling family.]
[Quest Objective: Defeat the Rat Emperor to reinstate peace for the tribe members.]
[0/1 Rat Emperor slain]
[Quest Rewards: 10,000 XP, 2× Martial-type Tamer Tokens!]
A Lair Boss!!
Seeing the quest details, Rheo almost jumped from his skin.
We ended up luring out the Lair Boss!
Will Raizen be okay?
He turned to look at the sky, but he could barely see Raizen's form.
What?? Where the hell is it going, to the space?
In a continuous circle, a spiral of shock waves manifested in the sky around the monster bird as it continued moving past thousands of meters, breaking multiple sound barriers.
Multiple sonic booms erupted.
The shock wave formed a distinct ring of deformed air around it, like a rocket launching into space.
Rheo looked back at the interface, his heart was thumping hard, threatening to jump out. Multiple questions popped into his head.
Did the side quest unlock because I went to tame a monster? Did the monster-taming scheme trigger it?
And what is with these game-like elements, the system even knew about the way of life of the fiery-tooth tribe and the tyrannical rule of the Rat Emperor.
He blinked upon noticing the quest rewards, 10000 experience points, and 2× Martial-type Tamer Tokens,
He partly understood the XP rewards, perhaps it was for Raizen or him, but what was a Martial-type Tamer Token?
He couldn't seem to wrap his head around what it meant.
In some video games, there were class tokens, but in this one, it wasn't like he wanted to become a Martial-type monster right?
A twitch appeared at the corner of his lips, there was no way he was okay with something like that.
Perhaps it could let Raizen gain another monster type.
Nope, what about the Tamer in the phrase, it actually belongs to me, I'm the monster tamer, right?
After multiple thoughts, Rheo felt a light headache surging up his temples.
The interface dissolved into nothingness then he looked up at the sky.
Raizen is not coming back?
Wait, I only say it should snatched it up.
Rheo's mind raced as he remembered the command, during the battle of monsters, a monster ranger must give the battle pet appropriate command of what to do and the skill it should use.
Raizen, can you hear me?
Rheo rushed to the center of the clearing, almost tripping over a thick vine.
Raizen is cold
A faint voice whispered back.
Temperature drops with altitude, which means the bird has flown past the troposphere.
And its metallic feathers would only make things worse.
Gently turn back and use [Lightning Dive], now!
Even before he finished the sentence, within the blink of an eye, a pure beam of blue-white lightning descended from the sky.
Multiple rumblings of thunder followed, the thunderbird was back, cloaked in raw lightning power, the air around it cackled with a spreading arc of electricity.
[Ding!]
A sound chimed in.
[Pet has used skill: Lightning Dive]
[Lightning Dive: build-up electrical power when diving is released in the form of a beam at the wing tips]
GBOOM!!
The bird struck the ground like a pure lightning beam, a flash of raw energy descending from the heavens.
Arcs of pure electricity spread around, singing the very fabric of air, crackling and dancing like wild spirits let loose.
Rheo could feel the heat wave emanating as the result of the singed air.
As it started hovering in the air, wings outstretched and humming with static, the bird's form was still cloaked with pure lightning, a tempest-given shape.
Now that they had landed, the Rat Emperor was starting to get its bearings.
It began struggling to break free from the thunderbird's talons, writhing with fury, defiance gleaming in every movement.
Its eyes lit up with a burning light of zeal, wild and fierce, as it gripped the sharp black steel talons of the bird monster.
The talons were starting to part—inch by inch, slowly but surely—under the monstrous strain.
The Rat Emperor's powerful hands were overcoming Raizen's talon grip force!
Rheo gnashed his teeth, even the electricity spiraling around the bird form didn't seem to do a thing to it.
The vine! Raizen, release it and, and perch on the black vine.
As he gave this command, Rheo jumped to one side, it was now or never, they had to gamble on the Lightning-Struck Vine power, after all, they were dealing with a Lair Boss.
Never in his dream would he have thought his first battle would be with a boss.
No doubt, great achievement is coming after this battle, he just had to see it till the end.
Just before the Rat Emperor was about to rip the bird monster's talons apart, Raizen flung it away.
The Rat Emperor rolled on the ground for a moment before coming to a stop.
Immediately it flung the Rat Emperor, Raizen perched on one of the exposed parts of the rooted Lightning-Struck Vines.
And then it happened, another surge of lightning power started building up inside the bird's chest, its whole body was glowing with pure blue light!
All the exposed parts of the rooted Lightning-Struck Vines were glowing with blue light, powerful electric energy was spiraling around them, the air around them hummed, it was as if a powerful machine was switched on.
[Lightning-Struck Vine has used skill; Electric Multiplier!]
Rheo could see it, the bird's monsters crystal core!
In the chest area, an absurd amount of electricity was building up in it, spreading to every part of the bird's body.
The bird's beak parted to release a loud high-pitched sound.
It had to hurry and discharge the energy, if not, the bird's body might become overloaded and break down!
The monster bird flared up its wings, ready to discharge the build-up electrical power.
Wait a minute!
The corner of Rheo's eyes caught the Rat Emperor, it was just scrambling to its feet.
At the same time, Raizen was about to be overloaded with electricity, its eyes glowing pure white, blazing with uncontrollable power.
"Now!!!"
Rheo shouted at the top of his voice.
As he gave out the command, he jumped to a safe side immediately.
Almost unconsciously, Raizen's flared wings snapped inward like a pair of divine hands coming together in prayer.
In that instant, a searing beam of lightning was discharged from the wingtips, lancing straight toward the Rat Emperor.
