Chapter 3: The Forbidden Technique

---

> "Even light can burn — if you use it wrong enough."

— Unknown

The night after the beast attack, Varnhelm was silent again.

Too silent.

No celebration. No thanks. Just fear.

Rael sat alone in the broken church, watching the new spell on his status window flicker faintly.

---

> "Even when I do something useful… they call it forbidden."

"Am I really a hero, or just a mistake?"

The door creaked open.

It was the village priest, his face pale. "Rael… come with me. Now."

They walked into the square, where several armored riders waited. Church Inquisitors — cloaked in silver and black, with cold eyes and silver staffs.

"You cast corrupted holy magic last night," one said. "That is a violation of divine law."

"But I saved people!"

"That spell is cursed. Healing magic is for restoring life, not ending it. You're dangerous."

Rael gritted his teeth. "Then what do you want? Take away my power?"

"No," the inquisitor replied. "We're going to test it."

Before Rael could react, the man raised his staff. A surge of holy light shot out — straight at Rael.

He barely dodged.

"What are you doing?!"

"This is sacred trial by judgment. If your power is truly divine, you'll survive."

Rael's hand lit up.

> "Reverse Heal Shot!"

A beam of golden energy blasted forward. It struck the inquisitor's barrier — and broke through, knocking him back five feet.

The other inquisitors raised their staffs. One muttered: "He broke a Level 3 shield… with healing?"

Rael's breath was shaky. "I'm done being told what I can and can't do. This power… it's mine. And I'll use it to protect people."

> 🔓 [New Trait Awakened: Hybrid Core – Holy/Corrupt Balance]

You can now learn spells from both Light and Shadow paths.

The inquisitors didn't attack again.

But their leader stepped forward. "You're no ordinary healer, boy. That spell… it's one only recorded in the War of Angels. Long before we banned it."

"What are you saying?"

The man bowed slightly.

"You are not forbidden. You are... chosen."
