Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Selena

The beast inside me growled in frustration as I stormed towards the history department, my heels clicking sharply on the polished floor. I could feel its primal rage pulsating beneath my skin, demanding release, craving violence. But I kept it leashed, focusing my energy on the task at hand. Finding out everything I could about this damn professor.

The history department was quiet, the halls empty except for a few students rushing to class. I spotted Professor Cross's office at the end of the corridor, the door slightly ajar. My pulse quickened as I approached, pushing the door open silently. The room was small, cluttered with stacks of books and papers. A faint scent of old parchment filled the air. I slipped inside, closing the door behind me.

My gaze swept over the desk, lingering on the scattered notes and open books. The professor's presence was palpable, as if he had only just left. I circled the desk, my fingers tracing the smooth surface as I moved towards the large window overlooking the campus. The view was breathtaking, but my attention was drawn to the small, locked drawer tucked away in the corner of the desk.

My heart pounded in my chest as I approached the drawer, the beast within me snarling with excitement. I knelt down, examining the lock closely before pulling a small set of tools from my pocket. With deft movements, I picked the lock, the mechanism clicking open with a satisfying snap. Inside, I found a collection of photographs and documents, each one revealing more about the professor's true nature.

The first photograph showed Professor Cross dressed in hunting gear, holding a rifle and posing with a group of other hunters. Their faces were obscured, but I could make out the logo of the local hunting club emblazoned on their jackets. Next was a document detailing his extensive knowledge of animal behavior and tracking techniques.

As I delved deeper into the contents of the drawer, the photographs became more sinister. One depicted Professor Cross holding a bloody knife, his eyes wild with excitement as he stood over the carcass of a freshly killed deer. Another showed him surrounded by a pack of dogs, their teeth bared in ferocious grins. I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of dread settling in my stomach.

The final photograph stopped my heart. It was a candid shot of Professor Cross, his arm wrapped tightly around a young woman's waist as they stood together in the forest. Her face was hidden from view, but her body language told me everything I needed to know. She was terrified, frozen in place by fear and desperation.

I felt a pang of sympathy for the woman in the photo, but my focus was on the professor. This was the evidence I needed to confront him, to demand answers about his involvement in our hunts. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what lay ahead. My hands trembled slightly as I placed the incriminating photos and documents back into the drawer, locking it securely before rising to my feet.

The door creaked open, and I froze, my heart pounding wildly in my chest. The sound of footsteps echoed through the room, growing louder with each passing second. I braced myself, ready to fight if necessary, but then a familiar voice cut through the silence. "Selena?" I exhaled sharply, relief washing over me as I recognized Aiden's voice.

Aiden entered the office and looked at me with his beautiful blue eyes. "Why are you sneaking into Professor Cross's office?" he asked cautiously. "To find out more about him" I replied coolly. "I won't let him reveal the hunt."

"What are you going to do? Kill him?" I shrugged casually, even though my heart was racing at the suggestion. The beast inside me roared in agreement, its bloodlust coursing through my veins like wildfire. "If necessary." Aiden's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you serious?" "I'm always serious," I replied, my voice cold and unyielding.

Suddenly we both heard footsteps approaching and before I could react, Aiden grabbed my hand and led me to the wardrobe. We went inside, and the space was small and we could barely fit. He's so close to me that I can barely contain myself from swallowing him. I have to tame the beast. "We have to be quiet" he whispered to me, not realizing what his proximity was doing.

The footsteps grew louder, and we both held our breath as they passed by the office. I could hear the person muttering to themselves, complaining about something or other. Once they had gone, Aiden let out a sigh of relief, and I did the same. "That was close" he whispered, his warm breath tickling my ear. "Too close" I agreed, my voice barely audible.

The tension between us was palpable, the air thick with anticipation. I could feel Aiden's heartbeat against my chest, his body pressed tightly against mine. The beast within me roared to life, demanding release, craving the taste of his fear. I gritted my teeth, struggling to maintain control. "S-selena?" Aiden stammered, his voice shaking.

"Let's get out of here" I said and pushed open the closet door. We left the professor's office and I finally breathed a sigh of relief. "I... I'm going" Aiden replied, his voice shaking slightly. Just as he was about to leave, he stopped and turned to me. "Helping you doesn't change anything between us."

I watched as Aiden walked away, his shoulders tense with tension. Despite his words, I could sense the turmoil brewing within him. He was fighting his own demons, and I couldn't blame him for that. After all, I was battling my inner monster too. As I exited the history building, my phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a message from Raven: "Meet us at the base ASAP." Without hesitation, I headed straight there.

When I arrived at the base, the mood was somber. The girls sat around the table, their faces etched with concern. Raven looked up as I entered, her eyes flashing with urgency. "Did you find anything useful?" she asked, skipping formalities. "Aiden confirmed that Professor Cross participated in the hunt. And I found evidence in his office suggesting he's a seasoned hunter."

Eve's eyes widened as she listened to my report. "This is worse than we thought" she muttered, tapping her fingers on the table. "If Professor Cross is a hunter, he may know more about our hunt than we realize." "I agree" Noah said, her deep voice echoing in the room. "We need to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't give us away."

I stood in front of the mirror in my dark, gloomy house. "I will not give up, I will expose the professor and make Aiden mine whether he wants to or not. "I will break your body, your soul. You will cry in my arms, bunny. My beast will devour you, you will not escape me." I muttered to my reflection.
