The bloodline upgrade was extremely painful, he felt like molten lava was flowing through his veins. It lasted for hours but eventually it ended.

His ash serpent bloodline had evolved into Knight Fang of Ash bloodline, he closed his eyes and tried to feel the difference the upgrade brought and it was more than he expected.
Not only did he have better control of his blood essence, it was more pure now but the most important change was his bloodline ability.
Before he did not have enough essence or high enough control of it to use his bloodline ability which is to control ash. He had seen the serpent use this ability and he couldn't wait to try it out.
Without wasting any time he left for the forest, he was starving, it seems the upgrade took a lot of energy. He stood before one of the boars, this one was a bit larger than the others and he could sense it was in late stage of the first rank.
However it appeared to be wary of him as it stood there grunting. He pulled his two daggers and that seems to trigger it. It forgot it vigilance as it charged at him.
Instead of using his daggers he pointed his right hand at it and moved his blood essence through his arm and a wave of hot ash was released from his right hand like a tide.
The grey ash with orange sparks in it covered 8 metres infront of him like a blanket, blinding the boar. It grunted, oink sounds echoing in the trees.
It came out of the other side of the ash blanket like a bullet. It hide darkened and some of it glowing like dying embers. It eyes were bleeding and smoke billowing off it face like a curtain in wind.
He watched it with surprise, he did not expect the ash to be so effective. In curiosity he stretched his hand to the cloud of ash to see if it would hurt and it did not.
He even touched and grabbed the glowing orange sparks and they only felt warm to him. He blew the spark from his hand and it landed on a tree and the tree burst into flames.
He tried to move and control the ash and failed, it was like trying to move a mountain with a single hand, the ash refused to budge until he gave up, it seems he can only shoot it out and not control it.
He grinned with satisfaction as he turned his eyes towards the rampaging pig, the red glow of embers on it hide was spreading instead of dying out.
He decided to put it out of it misery, with a swing of his dagger he stabbed it in the head killing it immediately. He also noticed his strength had increased significantly.
It seems the better control of his essence increased the effect of all the other bloodlines to an extent,unfortunately he still cannot use their bloodline abilities like turning his skin into hard wood like the boars.
Shoot feathers like the raven or wind blades like the falcon. However the more minor or rather passive abilities like sight from the falcon had increased. He could also tell his physical strength which is the passive ability of the boar bloodline had increased.
Satisfied he carried the boar that weighed over 5 tons, a number he strangely knew for some reason. He knew this was the passive ability of the raven, it increased his overall intelligence, atleast when it comes to maths, he wasn't certain about other things.
Before, he could not achieve things like this. Carrying 5 tons, even if it was a bit heavy it was still impressive, estimating weight to such extent simply by carrying something or seeing so far with his own eyes.
Bloodlines were impressive, no wonder bloodline holders like Tiger look down on normal humans so much, they're really not comparable.
Arriving home he created a tiny spark and lit up a fire, within minutes he had already skinned the boar, a task that took atleast an hour before was done in less than 10 min.
Higher grade bloodlines were truly impressive. He wondered if he could take on Tiger now. Don't be arrogant Ashborn, reach peak stage first, he admonished himself for growing arrogant.
Speaking of stages he looked at a pile of blood cores sitting in the conor. They were from the beasts he killed in the past three weeks, he had not absorbed a single one.
Deciding it was time, after all,tonight he intended to hunt something else. Unlike what he had been hunting all this time, this was a predator, If he was not careful he would be the prey.
He absorbed every core except the two densest ones which were from the two birds and he still did not reach the late stage. Oy system, what happening here, why have I not reached the next stage?

What the hell does that even mean?, he was getting creeped out by the system now, now that he thought about it, what the hell is the system and where is from?
He had never heard of anybody else possessing something like the system however seeing the promise of power it gave he did not even question it.
He sighed, not that it mattered, there's nothing he can do about it with his current power. One thing he agreed with the system on is that he needs to grow stronger.
It's the only way he can survive on this cruel world. He absorbed the remaining two blood cores and felt the explosion he had been waiting for.
