Chapter 11 - Last Stand in the Dark

We weren't in the same stony hallways anymore. It was a large square room, while dark, there's a small light that enabled us to see.

Seeing Ros, our Support, barely able to fight the Corrupted, I got up and took his position as the attacker.

Ros quickly stepped back as I rose forward, sword in my hand.

What stood in front of me were multiple beasts, there were two snakes, large in size, yet they were moving quickly as they hissed loudly.

Then, there were about three other corrupted wolves. They held little resemblance to the ones I faced before.

These ones were especially wide, and their eyes were glowing red. Drool leaked from their mouths, basically looking to kill.

I thought of using Form One, but this might have been only the beginning. I couldn't waste it as I'm only able to use it once per day.

"Let's go!" I said loudly.

Ros rose his staff, which I hadn't seen him carry before. The staff had a peculiar look. There was a large crystal in the end of it and its handle was fit enough for him to carry.

He summoned shards of ice as I charged towards the wolves, to hold them back.

The shards were making loud noises as they were crashing into the wall, ground and some of them reaching closer to the wolves.

They scattered quickly, multiplying as soon as one was fired.

They were aimed to perfectly match my fight. I reached up to one of the wolves as the shards of ice were not ending.

The wolf let out a roar before raising its large paw, to slice me with its nails curved enough to cut somebody in half.

I instantly stepped out of the way as I ducked, dodging its attack aimed for my torso.

I raised my sword and quickly sliced its large arm that hung over me. Hot blood sprayed across my cheek like a burning slap.

I closed my eyes as the wolf's blood dripped on my face, then quickly moved my head left and right, to get rid of the blood enabling me to see again.

I caught the wolf off guard as it was still obviously hurt by the attack, quickly, I rose back to my feet and jumped at it.

I clutched my sword tightly before sticking it deep into its head, completely killing it.

Before I had the chance to take a breath, more of them jumped at me as they saw me kill one of their brethren.

The shards of ice stopped, as spikes of stone rose from the ground, large enough to blow a hole in a person's stomach.

With no hesitation, I jumped upwards as both wolves were coming at me from different directions.

I used a wind spell to repel myself forward, then used it again to land properly on my feet.

The wolves dodged the spikes of earth as the snakes were also basically climbing on it, hissing the entire time.

However, more spikes came out of the same ones that tried to kill the beasts first.

It even shocked me, as one of the snakes had its head blown off, and one of the wolves stumbled downwards as it tried to dodge.

All that was left was one of the wolves and a snake.

I have to do this quickly before the snake reaches me.

I thought as my brows were furrowed before I faced the wolf again.

This time, I let fire engulf my sword. To make them feel even greater pain, and to help me do this quicker.

Ros kept trying to use the same spell, as shards of ice and spikes of earth rose from the ground continued, I charged as my sword was on fire.

The wolf was directly in front of me, this time I raised my sword to quickly end its life before the other one got back on its feet.

The wolf stepped back quickly as it jumped to a nearby spike, catching me off guard.

It jumped even quicker to a different spike as each time it jumped to a different one, more spikes came out.

The wolf got quicker with its moves, before I finally couldn't follow it anymore.

Having no idea where it'll come from, the spikes increasing and the slightly dark room, I gritted my teeth as I clutched my sword tightly,

Then finally, the wolf jumped at me, I noticed it just barely.

Flames erupted as my blade carved the air — straight into the wolf's path.

A large slash of flame erupted from my sword, slashing directly at the wolf charging towards me, cutting it in half.

I took a quick look at it and noticed its injured leg, my eyes widened in realization.

"A distraction!" Ros shouted from afar.

I quickly turned, but I was too late. The other wolf that kept jumping around the spikes finally charged downwards, at me.

I was completely distracted and fell for their trap.

The wolf roared at me as it got closer. Its large and curved nails cut me. I felt my back burning from the slash, as my cape and clothes were both slashed too.

Thanks to reinforcing my body with mana, it didn't slice deep enough to make it a fatal injury. But the pain was still there.

I shouted in agony as I felt my whole body trembling.

The Corrupted Viper, waiting for the best opportunity finally came out and hissed at me. I was on the ground and completely defenseless.

Ros, who was in the distance, caught sight of me and tried to reinforce me by using another earth spell.

Before he had the chance to do that, the viper already reached me, biting me on my leg hard. I felt the poisonous venom leak into my body as I couldn't even stretch a muscle anymore.

An icy burn spread from the bite, pain started lacing through my veins like fire in my blood.

The beast kept its teeth on my leg before three arrows, one normal and two made out of a wind spell, were fired directly into its head, killing it completely.

It didn't stop the poison from leaking onto my body, though.

Then, the wolf was about to charge at me once more, before I gritted my teeth through the pain and quickly raised my sword to stab it.

The wolf stumbled as it saw me raising my sword again, as it jumped without thinking I'd be able to do even that.

I engulfed my sword in flames once more before I released another slash of fire, screaming in pain as I was doing it.

The slash of blaze moved instantly towards its head, cutting it off from its large mouth, but not through its whole body as this slash wasn't as strong as the one I'd used earlier.

It left a disturbing sight in front of me, but more disturbingly was the state of my body.

My body kept burning in pain, the venomous poison was quickly spreading throughout my blood. My legs trembled as I fell down, unable to hold my ground.

I heard the sound of steps coming directly towards me.

It was Ros and Lara, I saw as I was lying down on the ground, on the brink of death.

Lara instantly got on her knees as she prepared for a high-level healing spell. She was chanting something, but I couldn't hear properly. I could barely even see her.

Ros did the same, which slightly surprised me, but I remembered he was a support, so he had to know healing to some level.

I let out a slight smile as I noticed both of them were healing me, feeling reassured even when my whole body was trembling in pain and agony.

I felt my consciousness going out, perhaps due to the poison, but I had to accept it.

If this was how I die, I would have no complaints at all.
