"What the...." The books she was holding fell from her grasp and thudded on the floor, and with the noise Conrad turned to look where it came from and Harper followed his head direction and saw amber with the books on the floor.
She then withdraw her hands from his touch and stood up with the chair screeched backwards, "um..I'll be going now, " Harper informed Conrad who was strong at her in disappointment.
He then said, "Alright, I'll walk you out. "
But she stopped him, "no need, aria and I always go to the dorm together, so...you don have to worry, " saying this she then left the library, but before she could pass amber, amber brought out her right leg, unnoticed by any one, Harper who was rushing to leave the library tower, tripped over the amber leg.
Conrad stood up from his sit ready to help the girl who wanted to fall but unfortunately someone caught her her face fell on the husky builded chest, before she could feel her body on the floor she wrapped her arms around the poised figure waist to support herself from falling down.
Feeling the presence behind her and noticing Conrad stopping, amber turned her head to look behind and gasped on seeing Rowan who gave her a death glare even if it felt soulless, his death glare was horrific and portentous.
He then straightened her up but her hands was still wrapped around him, her face buried on his hefty chest, she felt his chest and it made her smile, wanting to see how husky it was, she withdraws her hand from his waist and used her warm palms to touch his chest, before she could hear fingers could get to it she heard him whisper to her.
"What do you think you want to do pervert, " he teased and hearing the familiar words made her push his masculine chest as she stepped back, with a flustered and embarrassed expression plastered by Rowan on her face she used her palms that wanted to touch his face to cover her embarrassed face and left the building.
He smirked after seeing the mischievous girl embarrassed and turned to his sister who was consumed by rage disappointed that the girl didn't crank her neck. Out of fury she took her books and left. Rowan then took a brief glance of Conrad with a smirk that was one sided and left.
'Rowan why do you always interfere, ' he thought gnashing his teeth in annoyance and left the library with the books still on the table.
"Hey, " Rowan called out on Harper who was walking fast to leave the library building so she could hide the embarrassment that decorated her face. Harper frowned, she wanted to keep her distance from the impertinent and grumpy final year student but he seems to find it amusing for him by scaring her.
"Harper, " he called out again and she halted, turning her body and her head to look at him, he walked up to her with his hand buried in his black coat, they were off campus now and they were near a building that was not too far away from the boys dorm.
Seeing him come nearer she questioned impolitely "what is it?" Staring at his hollow blue eyes that held mischief in them.
"I thought I told you to stay away from Conrad? " He asked making her raise her brows.
"Its non of you business Rowan, I'll keep talking to him and he will keep tutoring me. " Rowan sighs and stared at Harper and with the expression on her face he could tell she has started hating him.
Not wanting to argue with her he then asked her his main question. "I kept my promise Harper why can't you do the same? " She raised one of her brows quizzically and he reminded her. "You said you would watch over Morwen Dennis for me and I was willing to teach you how to ride a bike. "
"How can I help someone who I thought was friendly and later turned out to be mean Rowan, if that's how you see your friends, I'm sorry but I'm not that person you are looking for Rowan, they said you hated strangers and in the forest I thought we were cool until you yelled at me with a cold stare when my words weren't even offensive and it made me overthink what Olivia said, you only wanted to use me as your pawn Rowan and I can't stay comfortable conversing with a person like that, " as she poured out her feelings through words and it made him think.
'maybe I was a bit harsh, ' he thought and said. "That's how I am Harper, " with his soulless eyes staring at her hazel eyes that unveiled annoyance in them. "So since you are uncomfortable talking to me, then I'll keep my distance but I'll keep my promise and you keep your words too...." Before he could continue she quickly said.
""Rowan, you didn't get what I just said, I want us to part ways so let's withdraw our promises," she said, her voice laced with desperation. "Being associated with you has already made me a target for a lot of people who are probably associated with you, and as a freshman, it my reputation is already getting slandered now. You're a final year student, and your reputation matters a lot more now. If anyone finds out about our arrangement, it could have serious consequences for me than you, and I don't want that on my conscience." He then remembered she was still human who can be killed if they knows, she is aware of somethings human aren't supposed to be aware of.
She searched his eyes, but they remained cold and unyielding, like two dark pools of stone. His expression was still shrouded in an unsettling gloom, making her wonder if he was even human. "Can someone so detached really feel anything?" she thought to herself.
Now understanding what she said he responded, "Okay I've heard what you said, I'll take care of morwen Dennis by myself, " he stared at her eyes and she got a little frightened when she saw how dark it looked, his eyes was hollow and deep so it made her stepped backwards.
Before utter any word aria called out, "Harper, " Harper turned her head without her body moving and saw aria waving her hand with her arm above her head.
As she turned to face him again, she noticed his eyes had returned to their normal state. "Go catch up with your friend, curious Cat," he said and continued. "But don't forget, you're not out of the woods yet." He phrased. "Without my protection, you're a sitting duck." His voice dripped with a venomous warning, and a faint, vindictive smile played on his lips. "Just a heads up before I leave," his voice then turned into a whisper, "never let them think you're beyond manipulation." Saying this he left leaving Harper to feel unease.
Aria's approach seemed to distract him, and he walked away without another word. The way he'd spoken sent a shiver down her spine, leaving her feeling uneasy. Before she could process her emotions, a hand landed on her shoulder, making her jump. She froze, her heart racing, until she turned to see Aria standing behind her. A sigh of relief escaped her lips as she relaxed into her friend's presence.
"You seem stressed these days Harper what's going on? " Aria got agitated.
"Nothing just some students bordering me there's nothing to get agitated about, shall we? " Harper said with an insincere smile that concealed her nervousness.
Before they entered the dorm building aria quickly asked. "Are you coming for the Halloween party?"
"Tomorrow is Halloween? " She questioned back unaware of the event they were holding.
"Oh you didn't know, since it's Halloween it is held at night, so will you be present? " Aria then stared at her with her green innocent eyes. "I don't want to be alone at that night. "
"Alright, can we bring our phones? " She asked aria who narrowed her eyes at her.
"Did you read the rules thoroughly? " Harper smiled at aria sheepishly and aria reminded her. "We can't bring our phones on any event held by the school so you can't. "
"That means tomorrow will be another boring day for me, " she complained as she let out a sigh.
"Halloween is fun you'll see, " aria said with a reassuring smile, but Harper wasn't the type to believe some words with just a smile. "What are you going to wear? "
"You'll see." With that the two girls entered the girls dorm building and dispersed to their separate rooms.
